Faculty of Philology observes a minute's silence for Charles Aznavour

The Faculty of Philology observed a minute’s silence in memory of Charles Aznavour, renowned French-Armenian singer and songwriter, lyricist and actor who died on October 1.

Ashot Galstyan, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, highlighted the presence of students and stressed that Charles Aznavour’s image should be the ‘inseparable companion’ of teachers of Armenian language and literature.

Professor Aielita Dolukhanyan, Head of the Chair of Old and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods at ASPU, the author of the book “Charles Aznavour as a Poet” delivered a lecture about the great crooner. She cited the words of French national hero Missak Manouchian who had sent a postcard to Aznavour’s mother, telling her that her son would bring honor to the Armenian people and glory to France. Speaking about the singer’s activity, the professor emphasized Aznavour’s humanitarian aid and mission in the joyful and difficult times for the Armenian people.

Students and lecturers observed a minute's silence in honour of the genius whose unique songs were played in the hall.

Charles Aznavour died at one of his homes in the south east of France. He died at 94 after a career lasting more than 80 years.
