Misak Davtyan, the former Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University, an academician of the National Academy of Science of the Republic of Armenia, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Professor, died on June 25 at the age of 84.
Misak Davtyan graduated from Yerevan State Medical Institute in 1958. In 1963, he earned a postgraduate degree from the Moscow Institute of Biological and Medical Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. Throughout his career he held different senior positions in the educational system. In 1999-2002, he was Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical Institute.
Great is his contribution to the development of science in Armenia, specifically development of biochemistry. He also played a great role in the improvement of the educational system in terms of improving the quality of higher education and educating qualified specialists. The academician received numerous titled and awards.
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Armenian State Pedagogical University, Misak Davtyan was awarded with PM’s Commemorative Medal for his contribution to education and science.
In his interview given to the ASPU newspaper, the famous scientist and pedagogue said that the success of students depends on the work of lecturers. “A lecturer should possess the best human qualities and be a good specialist at the same time.”
The skillful educator never set artificial boundaries between students and him. He was sure that students are very sensitive and they should be treated impartially.
“A scientist, lecturer and organizer of educational process…” Misak Davtyan characterized himself with these words during the interview. He always looked within himself to find the reason for each failure.
The renowned scientist supervised the theses and doctoral dissertations of more than 60 specialists. The school of science created by Academician Davtyan continues to function in the country and beyond its boundaries.
