Future pedagogues introduced to Teach For Armenia Fellowship

Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted representatives of the Teach For Armenia NGO. During the meeting with ASPU students, Director of Recruitment and Selection at the Teach For Armenia, Teny Avakian, present the Teach For Armenia initiative, its mission and activity and application procedures.

Teach For Armenia recruits and trains outstanding university graduates and young professionals with a record of achievement to expand educational opportunities for all children by sending them to teach for two years in schools across the country where they are needed most.

“There are schools in Armenian regions that have not had teachers in specific subjects for years. Certain subjects have not been taught in these schools for many years. Besides, one in four pupils in Armenia does not leave high school. Now you have an opportunity to advance your career, become an aspiring professional, a teacher with outstanding leadership skills while at the same time contributing to the solution of these problems,” Teny Avakian said during the meeting. She added that in addition to gaining experience of teaching in schools and becoming leaders in their classrooms and communities, the Teach for Armenia Fellowship offers a fully paid two-year leadership development program aimed at developing professional and personal skills of participants.

Teny Avakian stressed that after completing a mandatory pre-Fellowship training period, TFA fellows are placed in schools in communities where they will teach for the next two years within the framework of the Teach For Armenia program. All expenses are covered by Teach For Armenia. In addition to their monthly wages, participants will also receive a stipend to cover other expenses.

“Teach for Armenia believes that each child should have an opportunity to receive a good education. We are officially partnered with Teach For All, a network of partner organizations in over 38 countries worldwide, with over 25 years of experience.  All member countries of the network have one common goal – to create equal educational opportunities for all children,” Teny Avakian added.

The presentation was followed by a Q&A session.

In order to apply to become a Fellow at Teach For Armenia, candidates must fill out an online application form at http://teachforarmenia.org/.
