Gagik Makaryan: The labour market needs competitive specialists

On May 11, students of Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted Gagik Makaryan, Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia.

During the meeting organized by the Chair of Sociology and Social Work, the guest delivered a lecture entitled “The role and importance of Sociology in overcoming social and economic problems.” Gagik Makaryan spoke about the importance of opinion polls, assuring the future sociologists that they give an opportunity to have a real understanding of the given issue, analyze the situation and draw corresponding conclusions.

Speaking about the current labour market, the chairman of the Republican Union of Employers noted that very often applicants do not meet the requirements for the job. It is necessary to consider the demands of the labour market and promote cooperation between employers, educational institutions and young specialists. Gagik Makaryan urged the students to do internships in a number of organizations parallel to studies and gain experience because the work environment and employer’s presence have an important psychological impact on employees.

He also touched upon the problems of young people in Armenia and advised the students to learn foreign languages, stressing that before doing research in one’s field of study one needs to take into account world experience. “Today, the labour market needs competitive specialists,” said the chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia.

During the meeting, Gagik Makaryan also spoke about Armenia’s economy, labour productivity and the country's priorities.
