Gevorg Brutyan Passed Away

On his 90th year Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, the RA NAS Academician, Chairman of the International Academy of Philosophy, President of the Armenian Academy of Philosophy, the President of the International Research Institute of Methaphilosophy, Transformational Logic and Argumentation of the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan Georgi Brutyan. 

 Georgi Brutyan was born on 24 March 1992 in Sevqar town of Armenia. In 1942 he finished the Armenian school N81 in Tbilisi; in 1984 he graduated from the YSI Faculty of Construction; in 1948-1951 he was the PhD student of the Moscow State University after M. Lomonosov. Afterwards, in 1951 he defended his Candidate’s thesis, in 1961 he wrote his Doctorate dissertation and became the youngest Doctor of Philosophy in his field of profession in the Soviet Union. 

 Additionally, in 1951 G. Brutyan was awarded the title of an Associate Professor, and in 1963 he was conferred on the title of Professor. In 1971 G. Brutyan was elected as an Associate Member of the RA NAS, and in 1982 he became Academician. From 1977-1994 he was the Academician-Secretary of the Department of Philosophy and Philology, and from 1994-1995- of the Humanitarian Department; besides, from 1994-2002 he was the Vice –President of the RA NAS, from 2007 he was the Advisor to the RA NAS President, from 2011 he was the President of the International Research Institute of Methaphilosophy, Transformational Logic and Argumentation of the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan,

Moreover, G. Brutyan had an undeniable contribution in the field of organization of science and education activities. He founded and ran a number of leading Departments and Scientific organizations; likewise, he was the founder and Head of the Department of Philosophy of the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute after V. Brusov (1962-1970) and the Department of Philosophy and Logic of the Yerevan State University (1970-1986).

 Similarly, he had a huge role in the establishment and development of the YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology. 

 Despite his age, Brutyan has been continuing the contribution of his reach experience and capacities into the development of science in his native country.

 G.Brutyan was the author of around 70 monographs, textbooks and books, more than 200 scientific articles published and translated to around 20 languages.

 What is more, G.Brutyan is a founder and author of a number of scientific directions and methodological guidelines which are called after him in the world scientific field. Among them are 

• Concept of Multi-logic  

• Transformational Logic 

• Principle of linguistic լրացչության 

• The Brutyan Concept on Argumentation Theory and his Yerevan School of Argumentation enjoy wide scope of international acknowledgment.

• G.Brutyan also had a great contribution to the development of Armenian philosophical thinking and Methodological Principles of Armenian Studies.

 Holding managing positions in various scientific and educational institutions throughout continuous years, Academician G. Brutyan had a heavy stake in the preparation of the new generation in philosophy, logic, sociology, politology and psychology. He presided over the professional counsel of awarding academic degrees at the YSU, and from 2011 he ran the SCC 064 Professional Counsel of Philosophy and Psychology at the ASPU. 

 Equally, Academician Brutyan had an undeniable merit in the world scientific society in objective introduction  of the Artsakh issue and  bringing forth fair solutions therefor, as well as for identification and joining the potential of scientists who were internationally acknowledged for their awareness raising of the Turkish Genocide of Armenians on the international platform.

 G.Brutyan was also a lifelong member of the World Scientific Academy  (Great Britain, 1990),  the founding member of the London Diplomacy Academy (Great Britain, 2000), was awarded state prizes of the USSR, Armenia and a number of foreign countries,  received honorary titles and awards from various leading universities and international institutes of the world.

  More to the point G.Brutyan ran and was a member of several dozens of magazines’ editorial counsels, including the Scientific Journal “Philosophy and Rhetoric” of Pennsylvania (USA).

 In his turn, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia mentioned the following in his acknowledgment note, “the brilliant life of the Academician G.Brutyan is the proof of how one person can comprise a scientist, a pedagogue and a citizen in himself and achieve acknowledgement in all three forms”. 

 The name of the greatest scientist, pedagogue and citizen was written in golden letters in the Armenian and World histories of science.

 The memory of the Academician Georg Brutyan will be always bright in the hearts of his colleagues, students and all others who knew him.
