“Gifted Alumni”: Series of Exhibitions at the ASPU

A series of exhibitions, headed “Gifted Alumni” was launched at the ASPU displaying the solo exhibition of works by Candidate of Pedagogy, Associate Professor Armen Harutyunyan - an artist, depicting the picturesque nature of Armenia and his love towards it.

The member of the Artists Union of Armenia, painter Armen Harutyunyan is better known among the art lovers as Armen Lorents.

The exhibition demonstrates the artist’s works of the recent two years, consisting of around 20 bright, colourful, optimistic and artistic pieces, depicting the nature of Armenia.

Throughout the recent 25 years, the artist has been engaged in active pedagogical work, authored a number of manuals about artistic pedagogy and education issues, which were also exhibited.

This artist, who has selected impressionism as his artistic style, is assured that landscape art is a wonderful school of patriotism and familiarisation with the native country, as well as a kind of upbringing.

Armen Harutyunyan, who has had more than 10 solo exhibitions, is so much excited for the first time; in fact, he has spent 30 years of his life as a student, a postgraduate and an employee in this institution. Besides, it is at the Pedagogical University, where he discovered for himself the inseparable bond between science and art, and till now he is guided by the principle “art in science and science in art”.

In addition, he admitted that after a long break, he decided to pick up the brush again, as he couldn’t imagine the rest of his life without painting.

“Glorious painter and an outstanding figure in the field of science” with these words the Dean of the Faculty of Art Education Ara Hakobyan introduces Armen Harutyunyan. He also observes that there have been multiple examples of combining art and science throughout history.

Likewise, the Dean of the Faculty does not consider it accidental that the first exhibitions dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Pedagogical University presents the works by Armen Lorents.

“These days, Armenia -inspired works are quite rarely seen” mentioned Professor Ara Hakobyan.

Next, the Head of the Chair of Fine Arts, Professor Karen Aghamyan confesses that in order to get to know an artist, he first gets familiarised with his origin, and then how he started on his creative path.

“The artist’s origin from Lori, as well as his first pencil paintings, included in this exhibition, stand for the fact that Armen Harutyunyan’ s talent of creating art pieces was gifted from the above.”

Later on, the Professor of the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods Hamlet Mickaelyan adds that the main task of art is to disclose beauty and present it, and starting from the 18th century, beauty is all-around.
“We are used to separating art and natural sciences; meanwhile it is necessary to reconcile these two. In addition to being a serious pedagogue, Armen Harutyunyan also has rich painting experience, and combination of these two exists in his works”, added the scientist.

We would also like to mention that the “Gifted Alumni” exhibition launched at the exhibition hall of the Faculty of Art Education will be continuous.
