“Good literature has few readers”, Gourgen Khanjyan

The Faculty of Philology organized a meeting with the editing staff of the “Literary Newspaper” [“Grakan Tert”] and the winner of the RA State Award, writer Gourgen Khanjyan. The Dean of the Faculty Mr. Ashot Galstyan considered it symbolic that the meeting was held in the Holy Week, on the Good Friday ( the day of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion), mentioning that the writers also have a similar mission.

The Head of the Chair of Old and Mediaeval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, the NAA Associate Member, Professor Aelita Doloukhanyan introduced the writer and his poem “ Give me your hand, little boy”, which received a state prize.
Professor Doloukhanyan stated that without philological education Gourgen Kanjyan, created pieces famous for their deep cognition, which combine several directions at a time.

“The writer’s faith creates the image of Armenian people, his main heroes are Armenians with deep souls”.
Afterwards, the students also referred to the poem “Give me your hand, little boy”, highlighting the philosophy of life of a person, who found himself on the intersection of realities. The meeting proceeded in the format of discussions and dialogues; Gourgen Khanjyan and the members of “Literary Newspaper” answered to the questions of future philologists presenting their ideas about the writer’s principles and life. Likewise, they advised the students to read a lot to be able to “pass over the writer and the books.”

Gourgen Khanjyan was sorry to notice that despite the slight loss of interest towards literature, it would still not dye or vanish. “We have elite readers of fine literature; it’s always like that, there are always few readers of good literature”.

In addition, the students asked questions about the writer’s stories.
“There is no man without a mask. I am trying not to confuse somebody like me in these mysteries”. Mentioned Gourgen Khanjyan and added that there are people in the world who see things the same way.
