Greatest Literary Gift to the Armenian Society

“Tekeyan” Cultural Association hosted the book presentation of writer, publicist, literary critic, the ASPU Honorary Doctor Yervand Azatyan headed “With Time and Contemporaries”

In his book the publicist united complete literary and human images of his contemporaries, portraits, articles, analytics, as well as the whole picture of his long term literary work.

On this occasion, the Rector of the Pedagogical University Mr. Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulated on the publication of the book and emphasized that due to his intelligence Mr. Yervand Azatyan was one of the greatest intellectuals of the Diaspora who could not be named next to any other intellectual.

“We have a lot of well-known intellectuals in the Diaspora enjoying international recognition, but we do not have any other analyst and connoisseur of the Armenian reality of this kind in the Diaspora; you keep your homeland your heart and with you”, mentioned the Rector, adding that the given book was a great gift for the Armenian society.

Among those present at the event were writers, literary critics, fellow writers and simply reading society, who emphasized Mr. Yervand Azatyan’s huge literary merit and fruitful work.

“Public speaking activities, marriage with the press, and literary criticism as a mistress”- this is how the Editor–in-Chief of the “Azg” newspaper Mr. Hakob Avetickyan characterized the work of the writer and public figure, and introduced Yervand Azatyan’s biography, the rich literary heritage and the road he passed.

According to Mr. Hakob Avetickyan, Yervand Azatyan’s rich biography proves the fact that the latter was a fighting and struggling participant in his own life, and not just an observer.

Further on, literary critic, the Secretary of the Armenian Writer’s Union Mr. Petros Demirchyan and Book Critic, Playright Alexander Topchyan also highlighted the importance of the publication of that book stressing out that the literary, human and cultural images of certain writers can be noticed therein. In their opinion, it was very important to reappraise and to present to the public the forgotten figures of our literature of the past.

The Editor of the book Mr. Yervand Khachatryan, in his turn added that Mr. Yervand Azatyan had been strolling down the central avenue of the Armenian reality for more than half a century keeping his transparent sight at almost all aspects thereof, including the significant and noteworthy happenings of the Armenian literary and cultural life.

“With his diverse and varying articles he is permanently present in his homeland; similarly, he is physically present in his homeland with his regular visits and active participation in the life of Armenia”, mentioned the Editor of the book and added that with the given book he ensured his permanent presence in Armenia.

At the end of the presentation Mr. Yervand Azatyan expressed acknowledgements to the team engaged in the compilation and publication of the book, adding that thanks to the Editor of the book he was able to recognize himself therein, to notice his literary features and allowed for the reader to get familiarized with the literary assets.

“Western Armenian is a language you love, but my own encounter with it is a sad and at the same time happy fact; for me reading and writing in Western Armenian is similar to a self-recharge. And now, following the velvet revolution, I would like for all of us to start writing with steel words, and for literature to be the literature of love and solidarity”, mentioned Mr. Yervand Azatyan and confessed that it was always a pleasure for a writer to hear words of appreciation.
