An open class entitled “How to write a term paper?” was organized for the 2nd and 3rd year students at the initiative of the Chair of Sociology and Social Work of the Faculty of Educational Psychology and Sociology.
The students were introduced to ways of writing introduction, theoretical and historical overview, chapters covering key problems of the topic, conclusion and bibliography. Professor Robert Jijyan, lecturers Gohar Mkoyan, Gayane Asatryan and Kristine Tanajyan spoke about the structure of a term paper and presented some guidelines about how to go about research and writing.
Stressing the importance of a well-written introduction, the specialists emphasized the urgency and importance of the topic, description of the overall structure of the paper, purpose and content of each chapter, and the importance of giving readers a general picture of the paper.
You should try to provide a convincing generalization of the results, sum up the research that you have carried out, formulate a more satisfactory solution to the problem in question, point out the most important direction for future resolution of the problem, single out the novelty revealed by the student, including the corrections and adjustments he/she suggests in the works of other authors… The specialists highlighted the following provisions in writing a term paper. They also spoke about other specifics, including the bibliography, quotations and citing sources in term papers.
The specialists also referred to requirements for writing a research paper in Sociology and Social Work.
The speakers expressed willingness to share their experience with students of other faculties as well, noting that a booklet is likely to be published in the near future which will significantly facilitate the process of writing a term paper.
