“If You Achieve Success in Your Work, You are Free”

The Lecturers and Students of the Philological Faculty welcomed the PhD of Philology of the University of Novi Sad of the Serbian Republic, Professor, Literary Critic, Prose Writer Sava Damyanov.

The Honorary Consul of the Serbian Republic in Armenia, writer, translator Mr. Babken Simonyan introduced the guest and particularly highlighted the message of the day that is speaking about writing and literature.

On these days, the Serbian Professor visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and was sorry to notice that Serbian people, who had been under the Ottoman oppression for around 5 centuries, did not have any memorial.

Likewise, Sava Damyanov spoke about the path he went covered, his profession, country, Serbian young people, after which he replied to the students’ questions.

Sava Damyanov’s love towards literature was born in since his childhood. He got engaged in journalistic activities when he was 20, he travelled around many countries of the world, authored numerous publications, after which presented himself to the readers with his literary talent.

“When I have a flashback to the past, I still think whether it was the right choice changing journalist’s freedom to lecturing activity. Then I realize that if you achieve success in your work, you are free”, mentioned the professor and assured that spiritual – literary work was more important for him than the remuneration.

In addition, the guest also spoke about his country and mentioned with regret that the 21st centuries’ globalization gradually eliminates individuality on the Earth, it equals and makes everything alike. Speaking about the similarities between the Armenian and Serbian nations he particularly highlighted the freedom of mind of both nations’ young people.

What is more, he spoke about the University of Novi Sad and its academic connections established with a number of European universities, as well as expressed his hope to establish cooperation with the Pedagogical University, taking into account the traditional, literary- historical, spiritual connections and similarities between the two countries starting from the 17th -18th centuries.

“Armenians left a big trace in the political, cultural, social lives of Serbia. Besides there are a lot of common features in the religions of both nations, and in fact it is the religion that helped Armenians to live and create without assimilation.”

From time to time the meeting was interrupted, or even blended with wonderful Serbian songs, and the student of the Gevorgyan seminary Predrag Miyanovich was singing the favourite songs of his homeland.
