Inter-university student scientific conference was held

The Chair of Biology, Chemistry and their Teaching Methods of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted a student scientific conference entitled “Youth and Science: From Research to Effective Solutions”.

The aim of the scientific conference was to create conditions and opportunity for students, PhD applicants and PhD students to share the findings of their researches, exchange experience and receive expert evaluations and recommendations for further research.

Head of the Chair of Biology, Chemistry and their Teaching Methods Samvel Pipoyan attached importance to the scientific conference held with the participation of representatives of partnering universities, academic organizations and researchers. Professor Pipoyan attached special importance to the substance of the speeches (the speeches not only contained a theory section, but were also based on experiments and were associated with methodology).

As a matter of fact, Alek Manvelyan, 12, participated in the scientific conference with a speech for the first time. Manvelyan not only goes to school, but is also exploring chemistry and participating in classes with university students. He delivered a speech entitled “Obtaining Anti-Allergic Cream in Laboratories”. Manvelyan came up with the idea of creating a cream, while the experiments were supervised by acting Professor of the ASPU Chair of Biology, Chemistry and their Teaching Methods Ashot Babakhanyan. Alek’s speech was particularly exciting for the participants of the scientific conference who asked the little speaker their questions, while Samvel Pipoyan called on the university students to learn from Alek the methodology for presenting a speech in an interesting way.

ASPU Vice-Rector for Education Mariam Ispiryan greeted the participants of the scientific conference and wished success.

“The interesting title of the scientific conference affirms once again that education doesn’t end with school and university, but continues throughout life. We are making efforts to make sure the Student Scientific Society revitalizes its activities in order to ensure smooth change of generation. We assure that even after graduating from the ASPU we are ready to provide guidance on the path of science and make our contributions to see you among our ranks,” the Vice-Rector remarked and urged the speakers to be free, confident and courageous.

Once again, on behalf of the University’s administration, she reaffirmed that the University will continue to lead a student-centered policy and provide students with a platform.

ASPU Vice-Rector, Acting Dean of the ASPU Faculty Biology, Chemistry and Geography Naira Safaryan extended thanks to Professor Samvel Pipoyan for organizing the scientific conference.

The Vice-Rector emphasized that she attaches great importance to these events, especially today when reforms are being made in general education and project-based learning is being introduced in schools with new criteria.
“Seventh graders are already completing research and project-based tasks with a criterion, and we will be the supervisors of those researches in the future,” the Professor said and, from this perspective, attached importance to the scientific conference and stated that this is a long path for Bachelor’s students to receive an education for a Master’s Degree and be more involved in research and serves as an even bigger opportunity for pupils. Naira Safaryan didn’t hide the fact that she would have dreamed to be in such an environment and have such an opportunity when she was in school where she could have satisfied her vocational interests.
The scientific conference continued with the participants’ speeches, which were related to biology, chemistry, geography, ecology and natural sciences, as well as the issues related to pedagogy and teaching methodologies. The speakers had a mandatory methodical component and presented specific studies and proposed solutions.

The conference featured the exhibition of the photos by alumnus Berta Martirosyan under the title “The Fauna of Armenia”.

The conference continued in two factions, and the participants received certificates of participation at the end of the event.
