A two-day international conference on the topic of “Life and Philosophy” was launched at the Pedagogical University, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Academician Georg Brutyan.
The ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan highly appreciated the contribution of the scientist-philosopher both in the university and in science of philosophy.
“The five years’ activities of the distinguished scientist are closely linked to the Pedagogical University and that has brought him new achievements in the sphere of pedagogical activities and science”.
By introducing Georg Brutyan’s scientific initiatives starting from the establishment of the University up to organization of international conferences, the Rector particularly outlined the creation of the scientific journal wisdom that had recently been registered in international scientific repositories.
“It is a huge success not only for the University, but also for the country as there are only two similar journals in the sphere of humanities.”
The RA Minister of ES Levon Mkrtchyan highlighted the organization of the international conference honouring the world-famous scientist and mentioned, “States survive and societies evolve thanks to certain people, who undertake the role of a leader in various areas. Philosophy is important all around the world for the perspectives of countries and the nations.”
In addition, the Minister highlighted that many nations in the world develop their outlook through philosophy schools, which Armenians had already achieved since the 5th century; those were traditions that had formulated the Armenian philosophic thinking, and continued up to the Soviet times, including the contribution that had been established thanks to Brutyan.
Likewise, the Minister assured that the involvement of different countries of the world in the conference proves the fact that we had our unique school of philosophy in the civilised world.
“He lived a great, long life full of success as he was able to be engaged with his favourite work and to found a school the achievements of which are known to the entire world. It was highly important for him to have the scientific achievements of his school spread outside the borders of Armenia and be introduced to judgement and assessment of the international public”, mentioned the NAS President Radik Martirosyan and highlighted Georg Brutyan’s activities not only as a philosopher, but also as a pedagogue and a researcher.
On this occasion, the professor of the Innsbruck University, Academician Hans Kochler delivered his lecture about “Philosophy and Democratic Prejudice”.
Throwing a reflection to the philosophical principles of Emmanuel Kant and Zhan Zhak Rousseau, the speaker outlined that human desire cannot be executed by persons with special authority, and a large number of people exists in reality having strong will and creating democracy.
“The will of the citizens is the source for democratic will and must be presented as a source of law”.
The professor of the University of Ionia, Academician of the International Academy of Philosophy Georgia Apostopolou first of all mentioned that Georg Brutyan’s philosophic works were a dialogue between people and culture, after which she added that it was the correct way of making conceptual analysis in the world of science. In her report the Academician presented primitive anthropology in Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics.
“Philosophy is an experience that commences with practice and the idea of practice. One must start with the traditions of history of philosophy, criticise them, clean and expand”, mentioned the Head of the Department of Philosophy of the South Connecticut University, Professor Armen T. Marsoupea, adding that the history of philosophy was useful and must serve as a tool to stab the soul of philosophy and to pass.
Hereinafter, the Chair of Philosophy and Logic will be named after the great scientist and philosopher Georg Brutyan.
What is more, his awards and scientific heritage reflecting the world’s evaluation were displayed at the Chair.
The Head of the Chair of Philosophy and Logic Hasmik Hovnhannisyan considered it as a great honour that the unit she was running would be re-named after Georg Brutyan and highlighted a few motives therefor.
“Starting from the day of establishment exceptionally his students of various generations have been working at the Chair; they continue the scientific-organizational and academic-methodological work that was founded by the Academician. And today, the Chair has included the issues stated in Brutyan’s concept as its scientific directions”
Moreover, the Head of the Department did not consider the selection of the topic of the conference “Lie and Philosophy” accidental, which, however, seemed quite general. Besides, she noticed that Brutyan’s access to the world philosophy was marked with the same-name monograph.
“It is a great honour to be present at the solemn re-naming ceremony; I can still recall with excitement all of my meetings with the Academician, all conversations, one of which referred to the establishment of main principles of the International Academy of Philosophy”, said the Professor of Philosophy, President of the International Progress Organization, Co-Chairman of the International Academy of Philosophy Hans Kochler.
Similarly, the Professor observed that Georg Brutyan had paid a visit and delivered a report at his native University of Innsbruck where he received cordial admission and high appreciation by the international society.
More to the point, Hans Kochler highlighted with admiration the immense dedication of the Academician to philosophy and the contribution thereof for the better values, and we should confirm that as a result of this the role of philosophy and philosophic perceptions in political life acquired new meaning.
The conference proceeded with activities in five areas in parallel.
