18 May is the International Museum Day, and the only RA university museum, the ASPU History Museum traditionally joins the events organized on this occasion.
This year, the title of the International Museums Day is the “Power of Museums”, which offers to disclose the potential of museums in the context of three core trends - sustainable development, accessibility of innovation technologies, continuous education.
Joining the festive events, the ASPU museum was happy to present to its younger visitors the new programme for middle school pupils headed “We Choose a Profession”.
The pupils, visiting the University from a number of schools, participated in an interactive game, got familiar with programmes offered at the ASPU, after which with the help of keywords they practically presented what they had learned.
In addition, the visitors of the Scientific Museum had a chance to see the exhibition of paintings by the RA Honoured Art Figure, ASPU Professor of the Faculty of Art Education Lems Nersisyan headed “Christian Armenia”.
In addition, within the scope of this initiative, headed the “Power of Museums”, a virtual exhibition of the architectural monuments and masterpieces of Armenia headed “Medieval Monuments of Armenia” was presented.
Furthermore, from 18-31 May, an exhibition of private collection of postal stamps “World Museums on Stamps” and “Treasures of Etchmiadzin” of the ASPU Associate Professor of the Chair of Biology, Chemistry and their Teaching Methods Ashot Babakhanyan will also be displayed.
What is more, the students of the Department of Museology will offer volunteer support at the “Museum Night” events in a few museums of the city till midnight, to share about the important role and significance of museums to the visitors.
The International Museums Day has been marked since 1977 by the decision of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This initiative aims to unite museums around the global challenges societies are facing, at the same time raising public awareness about the important role and capacities of museums in regards with standing and overcoming those challenges.
