An international symposium of plein air painting dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia kicked off at ASPU on June 11.
The event has brought together 17 artists from six countries - Russia, Poland, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania and Armenia. Within the framework of the event, the attendees will participate in discussions and debates on various issues, share and exchange experience, conduct master classes and visit historical and cultural sights in Armenia.
The visiting artists will paint with ten students of the Faculty of Art Education, get acquainted with the education process at the University and conditions at studios. The results of the plein air will be summed up during an exhibition to be opened at the National Gallery of Armenia on June 22.
ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan welcomed the participants of the international symposium, wishing them effective and productive work.
“We attach importance to the participation of students in the event. They will have an opportunity to get acquainted with your art not only through your works, but also during the joint activity and face-to-face meetings,” Mr. Mirzakhanyan said. He added that the University would organize new symposiums and invite participants from other countries as well.
The ASPU rector also spoke about the mission and the most important directions of the University. He stressed that the University has a ‘monopoly’ in a number of specialties and assured everyone that the focus of their activity is to create a modern learning environment for students.
Faraon Mirzoyan, Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia, who has participated in many plein airs, says it is difficult to organize symposiums of this format nowadays. “It speaks to the fact that the Pedagogical University pays great attention to art, especially to painting” he said.
Many of the participants are in Armenia for the first time. They confess that they are impressed by the country and have even decided to visit the country again.
During the 11-day event, the guests will get acquainted with the educational system of the Pedagogical University, the structure and activities of the university, as well as to deepen and develop educational and cultural ties with different countries.
