The Rector of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Armenia Tian Erlong.
The meeting aimed at discussing the results of cooperation with the higher educational institutions of China. The Rector highlighted that during the five years of cooperation the parties had had the opportunity to collaborate not only within the scope of subject curricula projects but also to implement teachers’ and students’ exchange programmes.
By now, the Southwest University of China and the Pedagogical University of Beijing have shown interest in cooperating with the ASPU in the following areas: students’ and lecturers’ exchange, joint implementation of scientific research activities, organization of conferences and seminars, common efforts fostering Armenian and Chinese studies, as well as establishment of educational programmes and receiving academic degrees.
The Rector particularly highlighted the participation of students of partner –universities at the “Summer School” international programme, within the scope of which the Armenian and Chinese students paid mutual visits to the international youth projects held in both countries.
What is more, referring to the cooperation specifically with the Chongqing Southwestern University, Mr. Rouben Mirzakhanyan added that by the invitation of the University’s Faculty of Philosophy open discussion lectures had been delivered by the ASPU Professors of the Chair of Philosophy and Logic after Gevorg Brutyan Ms. Hasmik Hovhannisyan and Mr. Robert Jijyan.
Similarly, the Rector stressed out that the Pedagogical University was willing to continue and expand the scope of future cooperation. In this light, an agreement was made between the Ministries of Education of Armenia and China and the Heads of the Universities proving the mutual interest; according to this agreement a new specialization in Chinese language and culture will be introduced at the ASPU.
Ambassador Tian Erlong highly appreciated the existing practice of cooperation and expressed his hope for both parties to reaffirm their willingness for mutual involvement of common efforts in new joint initiatives.
