On 27 March, the annual Olympiad organized by the ASPU Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy kicked-off; this year it involved not only the undergraduates and postgraduates of the University, but also the pupils of the Yerevan School No 189, the Vayq, Lernanist, and the ASPU high-schools.
The Head of the Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy, Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan introduced the objectives considered when setting the sequence of phases of the Olympiad, such as raising interest among children toward the profession of a teacher, formation of pedagogical thinking among the undergraduates, development of school pedagogy, home education and upbringing, theoretical and practical pedagogy, as well as elaboration on applied pedagogy among postgraduate students.
Likewise, among the questions included for the students participating in the Olympiad were those relating to proposing solutions to various pedagogical incidents and issues, coming up with options for the resolutions thereof, making pedagogical “guidance”.
Further on, on behalf of the Management of the University, the ASPU Vice -Rector, Doctor of Psychology, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan congratulated the participants and added, “This is a platform, where the collaborative work of the triple -union of pupils-students-lecturers aims at appreciation of teachers’ work, identification of new routes, and defining schools as smithies, where all activities are in chain link with universities.
Likewise, the Vice-Rector wished success to all participants, looking forward to such discourses being useful enough to give floor to many of them to consider finding the vision of their future career right here.
Summing up the kick-off of the Olympiad, Aida Topuzyan reminded that the aim of the Olympiad was not only victory, but also participation. At the end of the day, speaking out a new word and applying a new method, each and every of us is trying to find a new model of a teacher, and that is what this initiative is also aimed at.
And since we are marking the 150th anniversary of the prominent poet Hovhannes Tumanyan, the pupils of the school No 104 headed by Candidate of Pedagogy Naira Martirosyan presented the “Anban Huri” [Lazy Huri] performance in a modernized format, still highlighting the point that the activities of future pedagogues would be directed to elimination of any kind of laziness.
Last but not least, the 7th grade pupil of the abovementioned school Anoushik Avetisyan touched all those present with her wonderful performance of a song about children lacking parental care, after which the first phase of the Olympiad kicked -off in various auditoriums.
At the end of the Olympiad all attendants will receive participation certificate, and the winners of the first three prizes of each phase will be awarded with diplomas and rewards.
