Knowledge is Strengthened in Nature

A five-day educational and cognitive internship was organized for the second year students of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography at the ASPU Aghavnadzor educational base, during which the students implemented professional studies and analysis of the nature of their homeland.

Since early morning the future geographers and biologists were organizing campaigns twice a day starting with the Marmarik valley up till Pambak and Tsaghkunyats slopes. 33 geographers, internship supervisors, headed by the lecturers of geography and its teaching methods Sima Dayan and Vardouhi Hovhannisyan conducted studies of the area’s physical and economical features, measured the water waste, the temperature of land, air and humidity, as well as carried out comparisons in various areas of the location.

In her interview to the old.aspu.am Sima Dayan assured that the internship was conducted in accordance to the primarily discussed and drafted plan.
“This year’s internship essentially differs from the previous ones as the studies are conducted with new and modern tools of the recently opened laboratory”.

Likewise, the internship supervisors added that surveys had been conducted in Aghavandzor and near-by villages regarding economic geography which contributed to the economic and geographical analysis; by upraising the existing issues, the inhabitants got informed about the dangers, certain issue were given guiding theoretical information.

The Associate Professor of Biology and its Teaching Methods Maro Qocharyan and the lecturer Knarik Uzunyan supervised the internship of 28 students of Department of Biology during which they gathered vertebrate and invertebrate animals, formed assortments, determined their sort with the help of auxiliaries, as well as got familiarized with the area and lifestyle of the animals.

“Laboratory animals and plants are not alive, while the live samples are more than living; knowledge is strengthened in nature”, mentioned Maro Kocharyan and added that the internship in Aghavandzor contributed for the naturalist-biologists and future pedagogue to get aware of how to organize excursions, what to fetch from where in order to demonstrate to students.

Moreover, the internship supervisor is happy to notice that students saw a number of animals plants registered in the Red book and made notes thereabout.

The 2nd year student of Biology Shahane Tadevosyan was contented with the interesting and rich programme of the internship; every day various activities were being accomplished; a number of animals were gathered , collections were made , as well as herbariums were established with a collection of plants with which cultivation was made.

“Theoretical comprehensible knowledge was strengthened as a result of experiments made in nature. It is extremely important for us as future teachers to be in this environment, which helped us to discover the interest of the profession”, Shahane mentioned in her interview to the old.aspu.am stating in the name of her fellow students that the only wish was to prolong the duration of internship.

The second year student of geography Ani Sargsyan in her turn frankly mentioned that before going to the academic base of Aghavnadzor she had been skeptic; she had thought that it would be boring; however, she confessed that the experience in fields, studies conducted during those days, measurements and activities developed in cameral conditions helped her to understand that she selected the right profession.

“The preparation of physical and geographical, economical and geographical descriptions, surveys conducted in villages assisted in making the knowledge more complete which was also supported by the students’ hard work and knowledge provided by lecturers”.

As the students and the internship supervisors stated, the educational and cognitive internship helped to first of all strengthen theoretical knowledge in practice, to get acquainted with terms and conditions of professional activities, to develop individual and group work competences, communication skills and practical capacities. Besides, it was an unprecedented opportunity to organize the best recreation holidays within the scope of internship; all these were guaranteed by the University’s Security Service and Alimentary Union.

“Nature is the laboratory for geographers and biologists”, specialists often repeat assuring that that is the only way that the future specialists could familiarized with the representatives of the fauna of their homeland, be aware of ecological issues, conduct professional observations, master study methods”.
