Launch of the International Conference on “Mathematical Education”

Annual international conferences on “Mathematical Education” have become of continuous nature at the Pedagogical University; the seventh conference was organised on 10-12 October. The conference was arranged by the joint initiatives of the RA Science Committee, the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. The official opening ceremony of the conference took place on October 10.

The speech delivered by Professor Hamlet Mickaelyan contained concerns about the future of our education, failure to pass over the important human values to our children, incapability of arranging and providing education in accordance with those values and other similar matters.

The question “Are we able to cultivate those features in children?” was important and so much more than just concerning… These are the issues that the conference aimed at discussing with its invited participants from Artsakh, Saint Petersburg, and other places /a part of them had an online participation/, as well as Lecturers and students from the Pedagogical University.

The participants of the conference were welcomed by the ASPU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Doctor of Psychology, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan, who, during her speech, particularly highlighted the professional development of students in the context of such conferences and wished for the demand of their professional communication to serve as basis for future developments.

According to the Academician Gevorg Baghdasaryan, “despite ourselves, our attitude towards science has slightly changed”.

He assured all those present that pedagogy could not exist without knowledge and science, and that one cannot achieve success without love.

Next in turn, the Lecturer of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Saint Petersburg Olga Ivashovna also delivered a speech. She had been dreaming to visit Yerevan and she was finally given a chance to make her dream come true, and to meet her colleagues. She spoke about the close connection between the two Universities, highlighted the importance of connection of mathematics and culture, which in fact helped her to work at the university of Childhood.

Likewise, Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Hamlet Mickaelyan presented an interesting report. It referred to the school mathematics speech culture. It is impossible to provide education without speech, without communication, and in that context the professor discussed the explanation and identification of mathematical language, mathematical language of schoolchildren, cultural layers of mathematical language of schoolchildren, language of Mathematics teachers, and textbook language cultures.

Furthermore, Doctor of Pedagogy Manuk Mkrtchyan spoke about the declining interest in mathematics and modern issues of teaching mathematics; and Candidate of Pedagogy, Associate Professor Qnarik Hovhannisyan, in her turn, presented her report about the ways of resolving conflicts between physicists and lyricists in regards with the mission of modern mathematics.

Summing up, this conference aims at raising interests towards mathematics and identification of resolutions of modern issues of this subject.
