“Life on the Earth is Endangered”

“As the crown of the nature, a human being is able to make strong changes in natural processes; but on the other hand, they are facing the biodiversity issues caused thereby. If any circle of nature is broken, human beings also go through changes”, mentioned the ASPU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Srbouhi Gevorgyan during her opening speech at the conference headed “Capacity Assessment of the Biodiversity and Agrobiological Diversity of the Republic of Armenia and Introduction of Scientific and Educational Basis for Biosecurity”.

On behalf of the University's Management, the Vice rector welcomed this initiative of organizing the two-day republican conference and expressed her hope that the reports would be vital and will bring forth new observations and approaches. Likewise, she highlighted the involvement of the students in this event, assuring that young people will share with their new studies, approaches and ideas in regards with the raised issues. The Vice-Rector is convinced that students are the future developers of various scientific schools of the University.

Lecturers and students from different universities, representatives of various organisations attended the conference in the spheres of biodiversity (agrobiological diversity) and biosecurity, organised with the support of the ASPU Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography, Chair of Biology and its Teaching Methods, and the State Committee of Science.

The Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography Ruzan Sadoyan wished the participants of the conference productive work and stressed out the importance of the topic within the framework of current changes.

“Biodiversity is endangered due to the climate changes on the Earth. It is the duty of each and every of us to support and contribute to preservation of biodiversity as much as we can and wherever we can. In addition to the endangerment of biodiversity, life on the Earth is also jeopardised together with the future of next generations”, mentioned the Dean of the Faculty and expressed her hope for the conference to become an effective platform for bringing light to those issues and holding dialogues on this matter, as well as to offer the opportunity for exchange of opinions, to raise questions and answers, and have discussions.

In their reports, the participants referred to the characteristics of the Armenian Highlands, the biodiversity and biosecurity issues of the wild but useful plants, solutions of those issues, the ecosystem of biodiversity in our country, their meaning and significance, etc.

The activities within the framework of the conference will continue tomorrow.
