Logopaedics - exceptional and humanitarian profession

By the initiative of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education Chair of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy a conference dedicated to the Day of Speech and Language Therapy was organised.

The aim of the initiative headed “Modern Issues of Logopaedics” was not only outlining the professional success but also finding ways to face the challenges. Among the participants of the conference there were specialists from adjacent spheres of this discipline such as psychologists, neurologists, pediatricians, future logopedists, etc.

The Dean of the Faculty Siranush Karapetyan congratulated on the professional holiday and spoke about the importance of logopedists – a profession that is based on human beings and their speech. Logopedists are supposed to be correcting speech disorders, and this profession itself is related to various other spheres such as medicine, psychology, biology and linguistics.

“Only human beings are dedicated with speaking abilities and that has unlimited and diverse functions. Logopaedics is one of the most humanistic professions and this problem is a universal one. We are here to help all those whose speech is not properly formed or is distorted, we need to correct the disorder of human speech and help their complete socialization”, mentioned Siranush Karapetyan and added that the base of this profession lies in pedagogy.

Furthermore, the future logopedists were welcomed and congratulated by the Head of the Chair of Logopaedics and Rehabilitation Therapy Stepan Grigoryan, who assured that they are the bearers of a specific profession and are there to help people to find their role in society.

The first year Logopaedics students presented a slideshow about the peculiarities of the profession stating that the language is an important form of human communication and Logopaedics is science about speech distortion, its correction and recovery.

Likewise, the students referred to the connection of Logopaedics with other spheres, spoke about the application of pedagogical methods of logopedic intervention, as well as confessed about their reasons of choosing the given profession calling for one another to be kinder, patient, wise and self-developing.
