“The Armenian State Pedagogical University attaches importance to the fact that you have linked your occupational cognitive requirements to this educational institution and that the University’s leading disciplines — pedagogy, psychology and teaching methods — are in the focus of young specialists. These three main directions are important and are required in order to show where we are heading, what value system we are shaping and what achievements we will make in the future, at your initiative and through you,” Rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) Srbuhi Gevorgyan remarked during a meeting with applicants who have been accepted to the PhD Program for the 2024-25 Academic Year and the applicants who have formulated their applications.
The Rector noted that it doesn’t matter what kind of specialists the University will prepare — it is necessary to remember that it is a teacher’s capabilities that will determine whether we will succeed in shaping, developing future specialists and shaping their value system or not.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan noted that, regardless of the professional domain, in our days, there is no task that is more important than realizing and understand whom we are educating, who those individuals are, how they are different from the previous generations, what the psychological and typological characteristics are by which the given generation differs from the other one and by which the developments and achievements of our country will be conditioned.
Gevorgyan shared some professional insights into the current problems and manifestations in the social-psychological field. As she noted, mandatory knowledge of the psychological component is extremely important for shaping an individual with the necessary values of the current generation. “You have chosen an extremely interesting sphere in which you will not only become stronger with knowledge, but will also become established as individuals with the ability to raise a number of issues; the key issues related to our sector are infinite.”
During the meeting, Vice-Rector for Education Mariam Ispiryan presented to the PhD students and applicants the academic activities of the University and the specifics of studies. She emphasized that this year the University recorded an unprecedented indicator of applicants and assured that the best specialists of the sector will be teaching and are ready to help and assist in carrying out extensive research projects.
Director of the Research Centre Kamo Vardanyan assured that the sector is in the focus of the University’s administration, adding that this is a research-based, experimental and scientific direction in which one must be motivated. According to him, as in all parts of the world, there is a need for qualified specialists in Armenia as well.
