“The applauses from 16 countries are addressed to you because the meeting with the live legend of Armenian classical music was a long-awaited event for the audience,” Professor Suren Danielyan, Head of the Spyurq (Diaspora) educational centre, said during a meeting with Tigran Mansuryan, People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia. The meeting was also attended by teachers who had been trained at ASPU.
Professor Danielyan assured the presentees that the works of the great composers are loved not only in Armenia but also in the Diaspora.
“Diaspora teachers are the savior and protector of the Armenian language. Armenian is, undoubtedly, a musical language, and melodiousness is a whole world for our people,” Mr. Danielyan said. On behalf of the trained teachers, the professor said that it was a great honour and joy for them to meet with the legendary composer.
Later on, the participants of the meeting asked questions to the composer. They were particularly interested in the role of Armenian music in world music, the fulfilled and unfulfilled dreams of the composer, etc.
“Our people have the power of music, and those who know us know definite names. Today young people are trapped by globalization but I encourage free sailors. I hope many of them will add the list of our achievements and connect the past and present,” the Composer said.
Talking about his unfulfilled dreams, the master mentioned that he always wanted to write an opera based on “Land of Nairi,” a novel by Armenian writer Yeghishe Charents, but in the course of years he became convinced that “Anush” is an unmatched and popular opera.
The composer confessed that he loves the Armenian language and has always had the pleasure to experience and enjoy the power of the words. Speaking about his interest in photography and the great teachers he had had, Tigran Mansuryan said, “Everything in life, like the life itself, happens only once. Everything else is patched up.”
At the end of the meeting, the participants enjoyed a live performance of “A Piece of Sky” by Tigran Mansuryan.
