On August 29, Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University, Ruben Mirzakhanyan, had a meeting with the principals and assistant principals of schools where ASPU students will hold internships in the upcoming academic year. The meeting aimed to discuss future steps and actions and address the shortcomings of previous years.
The Rector stressed that they began reforming pedagogical practices first of all by reducing the number of educational institutions: only 15 primary and high schools will host interns [from ASPU] in the 2016-2017 academic year instead of the former 200, which is a mutually beneficial deal aimed at changing the traditional approaches.
The participants of the meeting expressed their gratitude for the trust and commended students’ readiness and academic performance. They emphasized the role of internships in preparing good teachers and noted that internships should be organized at all levels of education. They also expressed their desire that the phrase “teacher's aide” be used in schools and fully perform its functions. Some even suggested holding active and passive internships in the same school.
“The higher the society’s opinion is about a teacher, the greater the role of the Pedagogical University will be in the country’s education system,” they said stressing the ASPU’s notable progress in recent years.
The guests later addressed questions to Head of the Internship Centre Vahan Sargsyan, which concerned design and drafting of academic timetables, assessment of students' knowledge, etc.
Mr. Sargsyan answered all questions and added that in order to boost efficiency of bilateral work it is necessary to join the online learning platform introduced at the University.
Ruben Mirzakhanyan also familiarized the guests with the changes at the University, international cooperation, activities of fully equipped laboratories for different specialties, emphasizing that ‘only through joint efforts they can achieve the desired result.’ The ASPU Rector stressed once again that the University is ready and open for active cooperation, starting from organization of joint Olympiads, competitions and class observations to meetings with teaching staff members.
