“Many distinguished and talented writers in Armenia are graduates of our University, among them Aramayis Sahakyan, Razmik Davoyan, Hrant Matevosyan, Sero Khanzadyan and many others,” Dean of the Faculty of Philology Yury Davtyan said with pride during a meeting with the staff of “Literary Newspaper.”
The Professor hailed the activity of the newspaper, stressing that it contributes to the revival of literary life in Armenia.
The meeting with the staff of the newspaper was initiated by Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan, Correspondent Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Head of the Chair of Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, who tries to strengthen ties between future literary critics and the newspaper. About twenty students of the Faculty have already subscribed to the newspaper and periodically get acquainted with the events of the literary life, news and translated literature.
Professor Dolukhanyan spoke about the important role and mission of the newspaper in the education of generations, recalled its editors of different years, including merited Arshaluys Babayan from the ASPU who was the editor of the newspaper during the Great Patriotic War.
“It is good that everyone in the literary field looks from the same window,” Professor Suren Danileyan, Director of Spyurk (Diaspora) Centre, Head of the Chair of New and Modern Armenian Literature, said addressing the staff of the newspaper. He particularly pointed out the kind and refined attitude of the current editor [Karine Khodikyan] towards the bad customs and practices of society, her objective and impartial approach towards different strata of society. “The newspaper serves the development of our literary thinking and helps us overcome our inner barriers,” he said.
Suren Danielyan also expressed the desire that students have their literary window in the newspaper, while Martin Gilavyan added that newspaper publishes fewer critical articles and it is time to get rid of trash.
The meeting was attended by Karine Khodikyan, the editor-in-chief of “Literary Newspaper,” a novelist and a playwright, who first introduced the staff members and then admitted that such meetings are really obliging.
Speaking about the so-called graphomania in our reality, the editor said that literary critics should fight against literary defects. “A regular staff member cannot fight the phenomenon alone. A critical climate is to be created by literary critics,” she said.
Karine Khodikyan assured everyone that the doors of the newspaper are also open to students.
