Today, the Pedagogical University welcomed the Head of the Department of Armature Control and International Security of the RA MFA SamvelMkrtchyan, the Head of the RA Advisory Group in the NATO, the Deputy of the Republican Party of Armenia KoryunNahapetyan, the temporary Charge d’Affaires in the German Embassy in RA Nadia Lichtenberger, the NATO expert in political issues and security policy of the International Relations Department Stephan Elgersman, the Extraordinary Ambassadors and Plenipotentiaries of the USA, Great Britain and Romania in the RA Richard M. Mills Junior, Judith Farnworth, and SorinVasil and other guests.
The meeting was organized within the scope of the Armenia- NATO individual partnership actions programme within the framework of the regular already 9th NATO week in Armenia from 2 to 6 November.
During the meeting with the teaching –professorial staff and students of the University the delegates introduced the mission and activities of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization aimed at human protection, fight against new threats, formation of partnership relations, establishing peace and stability.
The US Ambassador Richard M.Mills Junior expressed his happiness regarding the membership of Armenia to the Treaty and particularly the participation of the country in the peace-keeping processes assessing it on a highly professional level.
In his turn the RA MFA Head of Department of Armature Control and International Security SamvelMkrtchyan assured that throughout partnership lasting for more than two decades bilaterally acceptable and agreed steps have been made bringing the partnership to the level that will furthermore allow making new involvements, such as the cyber-security.
Likewise, the Head of the RA Advisory Group in the NATOKoryunNahapetyan emphasized in his speech the importance of holding the NATO week at the Pedagogical University, afterwards introduced the Armenia- NATO relations in a parliamentary format, as well as referred to the effective cooperation and partnership with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in all sphere. Moreover, he highlighted the significance of this institution from the perspectives of both internal and external policies assuring that during various sessions the Armenian delegation had managed to properly represent the national security interests.
The meeting with the NATO delegates continued in a Q&A session format.
In the course of discussions of the current situation in the NATO and its active policy in the direction of terrorism and armature, the representatives did not hide their great attention towards terrorism issues and mentioned the organization of numerous events aimed at reduction of the worldwidenumber thereof.
In response to the students’ question regarding the crisis in Syria and Ukraine and providing support to latter, the speakers underlined the fact that a great number of suggestions were being presented at the Assembly, nevertheless, the international society was not unanimous in its decisive approaches for final resolution; accordingly, no great progress could be noted as the involved parties were demonstrating diverse approaches and making varying assessments.
Additionally, the speakers replied to many other questions, particularly whether the NATO had a specific policy about gender equality, what was their attitude towards the regulation of the NagornoKarabakh conflict, how they were receiving information about the activities of neighbouring states, and other issues.
And last but not least, the guests also visited the University Museum where they got acquainted with the history and chronology of the ASPU.
