“There was a time when the warm morning thawing was filling my old body with joy. Now the view of each new dawn is worrying me. The deadly chlorine-fluorine-carbons have
been used in equipment for more than 50 years; but penetrating out they started remorselessly attacking the ozone layer. The ozone molecules are now fighting against the ultraviolet soldiers and the chlorine-fluorine-carbons, and the weakening and rifting of the ozone layer becomes a matter of time.”
This is just an extract from the dialogue of two cartoon heroes Albetra heron and the Ozi ozone that is, actually, a warning directed to the protection of the ozone layer.
The students of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography raised environmental problems, referred to the history of the ozone layer discovery, its composition, decay and thee danger threatening the Earth.
“The process of the ozone layer decay is directly connected with harmful materials used in the industrial and daily life which contain chlorine. Each country, industrial enterprises must give up chlorine-fluorine-carbons utilization.
Each and any of us must contribute to the protection of the ozone layer,” the future chemist Armenouhi Smbulyan said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Svetlana Hovakimyan is excited that the problem of the ozone layer destruction has unified students from all departments of the Faculty, “Indeed, the problem of the ozone layer decay is a serious environmental issue.
Each of you spoke about the insalubrity of the materials decaying the ozone layer, as well as presented the measures to be taken to stop the penetration. The topic has been introduced in a new and get-at-able format that contributes to the integration of freshman into the University life”.
Last but not least, the students urge not to forget that when it comes to the environment, all our activities are of vital meaning.
And we would also like to mention that this initiative to have an event dedicated to the ozone layer protection problem belongs to the Students Scientific Society.
