Rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Rouben Mizakhanyan today met with representatives of Germany-based AWO
Bremerhaven Foundation headed by President Volker Tegeler.
The meeting announced the start of a new collaboration between the Foundation and ASPU.
Rouben Mizakhanyan briefed his guests on the activity and mission of the Pedagogical University, noting that ASPU is the only higher educational institution in Armenia that prepares professionals in several key specialties, such as special pedagogues. The Rector also referred to the manuals dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Pedagogical University.
For his part, Volker Tegeler thanked Mr Mizakhanyan for the warm welcome and presented the cooperation program. The Federal Republic of Germany and Armenia established friendly relations many years ago.
The cooperation between the German Foundation and Armenian University is expected to further cement and deepen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Head of the Chair of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology, Doctor, Professor Melanya Astvatsatryan said that a center for adaptation will be opened at the Pedagogical University as a result of the cooperation.
As she said, repatriates, specifically children, face a number of problems and challenges upon their return to the homeland. The specialists of the center will work with resettlers, especially those who have returned from Germany.
“Migrants usually have to pass a difficult way of socialization. Using the opportunities of the Pedagogical University, we shall be able to facilitate and accelerate the process of adaptation for Armenian children by rendering them first aid,” said the Professor.
Also, courses will be organized for repatriates to improve their language skills and solve the problem of their education. Within the framework of the cooperation program, they will
be offered counseling and psychological services, get familiarized with the system of values of Armenia, mentality, etc. All these measures are intended to facilitate the process of adaptation for repatriating families, especially their children.
The Pedagogical University is the only institution in Armenia to implement a similar program with AWO Bremerhaven.
After the meeting, the guests visited the newly opened three-dimensional museum of the Pedagogical University and received more information about the history of the University.
