Chancellor Met the Students
12.12.2012
From 3-8 December, the Chancellor of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan had meetings with the students of all ten Faculties. The meeting passed in a free and

easy atmosphere; the Deans of the Faculties were not participating at the meetings, thus, the students introduced the matters of interest directly to the Chancellor.

The main issue of the students’ complaints was the not really effective organization of the internships. And the Chancellor, in his turn, agreed that today the internships bear a more formal nature despite its utmost importance.

In fact, currently this issue is considered our Achilles heel, and the University’s governing bodies do their hardest so that the students’ internship passes properly.

He also informed that in summer of the current academic year, the internship for the second year students of the Faculty of History and Law will be held in Eastern Armenia; as for the Psychology students, at the moment, discussions are held with the best universities of Moscow to arrange the forthcoming internships there.

More to the point, Rouben Mirzakhanyan informed the students of the Department of Museology that the current year’s freshmen would have chances to see the best museums and exhibition halls of the World in the close future.

In addition, due to the cooperation agreement signed with the University of Oulu, wonderful opportunities have been created for the students of the Faculty of Special Education who will participate in a variety of student exchange programmes and receive a part of their education in Europe.

Overall, in the upcoming years, as a result of the policy adopted by the University governing bodies, the students will have

active and dynamic internship opportunities both within the country and abroad.

Further on, the next group of students referred their questions to the curricula and examinations; the students of the graduate courses suggest that the interim examinations should be excluded and more time should be given to them to better and more properly prepare for the final qualification examination.

On the contrary, the others think that the written examinations are not very much relevant for some subjects, but on this point the Chancellor noted that all over the World examinations both in educational establishments and while applying for a job are taken in the written form.

However, this does not suppose devaluation of the oral speech especially for teachers, likewise, oral interaction is equally and even more important for students.

In their turn, the students expressed their gratitude to the Chancellor for the obvious progress observed at the University,

particularly the international cooperation, improvement of students’ physical preparedness, availability of better food, and upgrade of the students’ problems in general.

More to the point, the students of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography said that when the students from one of the universities visited the new Pedagogical museum, they said with astonishments and delight, “We envy you so much, we wish we were you”.

After these words the students presented the souvenir which they prepared on their one to the Chancellor wishing him good luck and added that even though they were not really superstitious but the talisman would surely bring him success.

Last but not least, Rouben Mirzakhanyan granted souvenirs to the excellent students of all the Faculties upon the end of the meeting.
