Today, the Pedagogical University welcomed the European Chess Union council members. The Chancellor of the Pedagogical University had a meeting with the representatives

of the European Chess Union and introduced them with the activities of one of the largest pedagogical establishments of the country, then referred to mandatory introduction of subject “Chess” into the academic process.
The Chancellor emphasized the fact that every year more than 4000 students admitted to the Pedagogical University have the opportunity to master the skills in the royal game and to teach it at schools, in addition to their main profession.
What is more, Rouben Mirzakhanyan was glad to observe that in recent times the educational system of Armenia also interests European countries.
“Today, numerous changes are realized in the educational field among which I strongly highlight the importance of combination of the world educational experience and the rich traditions of the given country,” Rouben Mirzakhanyan said. Besides, he informed the guests that Armenia is the only county in the world, where Chess is taught in all secondary educational establishments.

For many years the Pedagogical University, like the other educational establishments, has had the Department of Physical Culture. However, here at the Pedagogical, this department was renamed into the Department of Sport and Chess which accordingly implied major contextual changes. In addition, Rouben Mirzakhanyan stated that the Chair was headed by the president-Founder of the RA Academy of Chess, the international gross-master Smbat Lputyan which was also a guarantee of success.
In his turn Smbat Lputyan added, “It is necessary to use the moment and to spread the rich experience of Armenia in chess all over the Europe.”
Further on, the member of the EU delegation, the President of the European Chess Union Silvio Danailov expressed his delight to be in Armenia as one of the World’s leading countries in chess. “We are like the inexperienced pupils who follow your success in this field and who wish to gain experience to further teach the subject at European schools”
