14.02.2013
Certification of Master's thesis defense continues at the Armenian State Pedagogical University.

Thirteen Masters of the Faculty of Primary Education, specializing in Pedagogy and Methodology /preschool education/ today presented the results of their studies and surveys conducted in the process of learning.

Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, member of the Examination Board, Associate Professor Heghine Khachatryan introduced the members of the panel–Vice-Rector for Staff and International Cooperation, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor Ara Yeremyan, Head of the Chair of Age and Pedagogical Psychology, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Vladimir Karapetyan, Head of the Chair of Preschool Education and Methodology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Svetlana Marutyan, Head of the Preschool and Elementary Education Division at the National Institute of Education, Karine Torosyan, Head of Psychological Service at the Armenian Center of Health and Education Armen Bejanyan, Principal of No 42 preschool institution in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak community Juliette Taghianosyan.
The Committee is chaired by Professor Frunzik Ghazaryan, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture.

During the defense, the students emphasized the modernity of the issues covered in the theses, presented the hypothesis of the research, its objectives, theoretical and practical meaning, the methods applied during the study, as well as the findings and analyses.

Frunzik Ghazaryan, who has chaired many examination boards at the Pedagogical University, said, “It is commendable that 50 percent of the graduates are already working according to their specialty. Today we heard high-quality theses, with the students presenting their methods used during the research and the final results.”

For her turn, Heghine Khachatryan added that the proficiency examinations at the Faculty were held in a peaceful working environment in compliance with the fixed schedule. “My expectations were not met; the results were modest, which gives cause for reflection. The level of Master’s education implies high research capacity. We are taking efforts to strengthen Master's degree programs and to bring research theses to a professional level,” she said.

The dean of the faculty added that none of the 13 Masters had received basic education in Pedagogy and Methodology /preschool education/, hence the poor performance of Master’s theses.

“The Faculty of Pre-school, Primary, and Special Education which existed before the Faculty of Primary Education did not have BA graduates with this specialty. The course was formed by the graduates of the Pedagogical University and other universities who had different specialties. However, despite the results, I am glad to say that the profession still attracts young people,” she added.

Eighteen Masters specializing in Pedagogy and Psychology (preschool) are scheduled to defend their theses on February 15.
