The purpose of the social program is to assess the educational needs of underage children of families involved in the family benefits system, reveal the main obstacles, study their skills, abilities and purposiveness of continuing studies.
The program supervisor Naira Hakobyan, Head of the Department of Master’s Degree and Professional Qualification Improvement, said the number of children enrolled in preparatory groups, as well as the number of teachers (tutors), subjects and classes were clarified and agreed upon long ago. “The project, which kicked off in November, proved to be more effective than we had expected. The best 20 masters of the University are voluntarily performing the functions of tutors,” she said.
Thirty-two schoolchildren from Yerevan’s Shengavit community have been involved in seven groups specializing in Armenian Language, Literature, Foreign Languages, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, History.

Nvard Manukyan, an 11th from pupil of Yerevan State Armenian-Greek College, says receiving higher education is no longer a dream for her. She was immediately involved in the Government-initiated program.
For five months, on Saturdays, Nvard has been attending the Pedagogical University and improving her knowledge of English. She is confident that she will be able to successfully master the course. By the way, the program allows students to be trained in three subjects at a time.
Tigran Khachatryan, a Master’s degree student of the Faculty of History and Jurisprudence, is glad to say that most of the pupils attending the training course have decided to continue their studies at the Pedagogical University. For her part, tutor Sona Tumanyan, a Master’s degree student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, said although the students’ knowledge was poor in the beginning, their punctuality and educational aspirations would produce the desired results and satisfy everyone.
If the pilot program proves successful, it will be continued in the future.
