Future Philologists Win the Inter-Faculty Debate
05.04.2013
Today, the final phase of the inter-faculty debate took place during which the teams of the Philological Faculty and the Faculty of Foreign Languages competed.

During the debate on the subject “Does Inclusive Education have a Positive Effect in RA” the participants state that throughout eight years inclusive education has not given its desirable results yet; moreover, there is a lack of not only necessary resources, also professional potential for its full realization.

To the contrary, the team of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, that notices positive results in the sphere of inclusive education, thinks that despite the current indicators, the adoption of inclusive education stimulates children with limited capabilities to come out of the mold-concept and to become involved not only in the sphere of education, also in other social fields.

Further on, clarifying the differences of inclusive and integral education, the philologists claim that for the time being, only integral education is applied in Armenia; during a lesson a pedagogue is unable to involve children with limited capabilities in student-centered education.

In addition they mention that they are not against the idea of applying inclusive education, however, there are no positive changes noticed in this field yet; the society continues having the feeling of compassion, and sometimes even mocks people with limited capabilities.

In his summarizing speech the team of the Faculty of Foreign Languages highlights that very short period of time passed since inclusive education has been realized in Armenia ;there are still a lot of things to be done that requires a longer period.

The winning team of the inter-faculty debate was chosen by the Jury Committee that is formed of the Founder and the Head of the Debate Club Ms. Liana Chobanyan, the Lecturer of the Department of Vocational Education and Applied Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Ms. Izabella Babayan, the SSS President Ms. Mariam Melkumyan, and the Responsible for the Debate Committee Ms. Shoghik Sahakyan.

As Ms. Liana Chobanyan mentions, the teams that have reached the final, have a quite well-formulated debating culture,

and the given arguments and proofs were enough to participate in more serious debates.

In her turn Ms. Izabella Babayan first highlights the intelligent and clear speech of the two teams, together with the teamwork and the level of information they have on the subject. “Organization of inclusive education is already included in the University curricula; this is a big step towards realization of inclusive education”.

The SSS President Ms. Mariam Melkumyan thinks that the subject should be discussed not only within the framework of debates, but also during the classes despite their specialization.

Summing up the results, it became clear that the winner of the interfaculty debate is the team of the philological Faculty, while the second and the third prizes went to the teams of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Culture correspondingly.

The members of the winner team were awarded diplomas and the book by Ernest Hemmingway “the Old Man and the Sea” provided by the University’s Trade union.
