Teryan Cultural Center hosted the exhibition and sale of watercolour works of painter Sargis Terzyan, a professor at the Chair of Fine Arts at Armenian State Pedagogical

University.
In her opening speech, art critic Mary Yerznkyan said Sargis Terzyan is a master of watercolor and a worthy pupil of his teacher Ludwig Berberyan. “Armenian painters avoid using watrecolour; it is a capricious material demanding finesse of a goldsmith. The exhibition seems to be an appeal to all artists challenging them to work with watercolour.”
“Tender, but not sweet…” This is how she described Terzyan’s paintings portraying the nature of Armenia. In its mountains and monasteries stretching to the sky, she sees light, high spirits and proud spirit.

Ara Hakobyan, Head of the Chair of Art History, Theory and Culturology, said he is proud to be the pupil of a great artist like Sargis Terzyan. He stressed that Terzyan has his unique and honorable place among the masters of watercolour.
“In a number of countries children are taught to work with watercolour at school, taking into consideration the fact that watercolour is an irreplaceable means to develop a person’s aesthetic taste and enrich his/her inner world,” said Ara Hakobyan.
Arushan Hakobyan, Director of Teryan Cultural Center, hailed the initiative to organize an exhibition-sale and underlined the artist’s readiness to transfer his knowledge and skills to the next generation.
The exhibition was attended by the heads of the faculty chairs, painters, students and numerous guests who have deep respect for the Master’s art.
The exhibition-sale will run at Teryan Cultural Center till April 21.
All proceeds from the sale will be spent on teaching the disabled children decorative-applied art at the Centre.
