Today, the Director of the Youth Union of the Armenian Church Rev. Yeghishei Avetisyan and the Spiritual Representatives of the Universities Deacon Gegham Avetisyan visited the
Pedagogical University.
After the Lord’s Prayers the Reverent presented the aim of the visit and explained the sacrament and the meaning of the Home Blessing ceremony, “Following the Lord’s precept and advice we are now blessing the symbols of this University, the salt, the bread and the water, as well as the members of this establishment,” Deacon Gegham Avetisyan said.
Wishing strength and wisdom to the University, the latter informed the students that according to the historical sources, Khachatur Abovyan was a priest in the Armenian Church; “I am sure he will be a patron for all of you in the sky in order for you to study well and become useful sons of the Armenian nation and church.”
In his turn, the President of the Student Council Mr. Nersik Margaryan informed that the Home Blessing ceremony after the Holy Easter is held at the pedagogical for the first time. “The University gladly accepted the suggestion of the Church which had both spiritual and educative meaning.”
More to the point, the freshman of the Department of Pedagogy of Choreography, Ms. Lilit Grigoryan considers the blessing as a spiritual food, but more than that she outlines the importance of instilling faith in God among the students. She is sure that very few of those present say prayers every day.
After the blessing ceremony, all those present tried the blessed water, the salt and the bread.
We would like to mention that according to the tradition, after the holidays of the Holy Birth of Christ and Resurrection spirituals visit houses, institutions passing the message and the Lord’s blessing of the holidays.
