Intercollegiate Scientific Session

Today, the second intercollegiate scientific session started at the Pedagogical University arranged under the initiative of the Department of Physical Geography of the Faculty of

 Biology, Chemistry and Geography. 

 
This session on “Mountainous natural-technological ecosystems as extreme habitation areas” is dedicated to the memory of the innocent victims of the Genocide of 1915. 
 
The opening speech was made by the Director of the University Scientific-Research Center, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Kamo Vardanyan. 
 
He highlighted the importance of the annual scientific sessions organized by different faculties and departments that have already become a tradition, “A scientist must be engaged in science and report to students and other scientists about their knowledge on that specific field; it is extremely urgent to speak about this on a scientific level,” Kamo Vardanyan said. He also added that these kinds of sessions are important especially for postgraduate students as in that case scientific research becomes a priority for them. 
 

Moreover, the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan also emphasized the session activities mentioning the following, “the questions discussed are important both for daily life and to raise our days’ socio-economic and socio-psychological problems.”
 
Besides, the Vice Chancellor is assured that the students’ participation will stimulate the continuation of scientific traditions. In addition, the Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Svetlana Hovakimyan outlined the intercollegiate nature of the session and the thematic importance and assured that weighty reports would be presented during the event with both scientific and practical significance. 
 
Further on, the ASPU Professor of the Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Geography Teaching Methods Mr. Yuri Mouradyan and the Doctor of Geographical Sciences Prof. Maxim Manasyan (YSU) also made their welcome speeches. 
 
Afterwards, the Head of the Department of Physical Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Gevorg Karapetyan pesented the session agenda which was followed by a report delivered by the YSU Lecturer of landscape planning principles in mountainous geo-systems, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Ashot Khoyetsyan.
 
 
Next in turn was the report made by the Head of the Department of Ecology and Sustainable Development of the Pedagogical University, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Prof.

 Karinei Danielyan. 
 
The latter congratulated those present on the Earth day and delivered her report presenting the international experience and achievements on the subject “For Sustainable Development of Education” the tenth anniversary of the UN”. 
 
The ecologist mentions with regret  that having strong science, technologies, the humanity came to environmental crisis, and the sciences, instead of foreseeing, started only stating its results. “Countries and international organizations did a great work on environment, but still we do not manage to prevent the negative changes on the Planet Earth”. 
 
Speaking about the field of education, Ms. Karine Danielyan mentioned that in the whole world, including Armenia, they try to fulfill education for development. “The Educational system requires complex approach, while solving each global problem one should take into consideration the economic, social, ecological problems of the country, find harmonic relations”. 
 
Moreover, reports were made by the Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Prof. Gevorg Karapetyan (ASPU), Doctor of Geographical Sciences Hovik Saladyan (Armenian State Agrarian University), Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor Boris Mnatsakanyan (ASPU), Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Levon Martirosyan (Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute) and the Lieutenant Colonel of Justice Arthur Karapetyan (RA MFA).
 
Summarizing the session outcomes, Mr. Gevorg Karapetyan mentioned that all the reports were developed highly professionally and were based on the authors’ own research, moreover, that they were more than necessary for the nature management, for the less risky usage of the natural resources.   
 
Aiming to increase the pragmatic meaning of geographical research, it was decided that the next session would be held on the subject of “the Development process of the Armenian geographic thinking in the context of the Past, Present and Future”  due in November of the current year.
