Alkis Raftis Gives an Exceptional Lecture at the Pedagogical

Today, the Pedagogical University once again welcomed the President of the UNESCO International Dance Council Mr. Alkis Raftis.

Our guest, who arrived to Armenia within the framework of the International Dance Day, made a tour around the University, visited the University Museum, got acquainted with its history and chronology, and at the end left a note in the museum’s memory book. 
 
 
The Chancellor of the Pedagogical University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Rouben Mirzakhanyan gifted the 90th anniversary medal of the University to the President of the UNESCO International Dance Council.
 
Expressing his thankfulness to the guest, the University Chancellor assured that one of the Universities with 90 years old history and the staff of already the member of the UNESCO International Dance Council the Department of Dance Pedagogy would do their hardest to best organize the World Dance Congress 2014 Yerevan. 
 
In his turn Mr. Alkis Raftis, who delivered lectures in twenty various universities throughout years, delivered an exceptional lecture during his meeting with the University’s teaching- professorial team and the students of the Department of Dance Pedagogy.
 

After introducing the activities of the UNESCO International Dance Council, speaking about the World dance trends and its diverse manifestations, the choreographer underlined, “Modern choreography is a wide notion; it includes a number of fields of art and even science. The International Dance Council is sometimes even called the United Nations Organization of Dance among the members of which are around 200 choreographers, 300 scientists from around the world. In the course of time, encompassing scientific-research potential, we created several branches of dance such as dance management, psychology, and dance therapy; while the positive influence of the latter is also scientifically proved.
 
The dance expert Mr. Alkis Raftis is sure that in the 21st century mastering different types of dance is not enough to reach success and to have professional progress, the knowledge of at least two foreign languages and high intellect is also extremely necessary. 
 
In addition, he urged to register in professional websites, to avoid using the internet waste and to stay away from the well-known joke that reading evokes a headache for dancers. “Choreography has its peculiarities; it is very much similar to the fashion, it often changes and requires mobility. It is necessary to read a wide range of literature, to acquire new qualifications in addition to the narrow specialization and to become compatible”.
