military unit competed with each other in an intellectual game and chess tournament within the framework of an event entitled “Our Victories.” The event was organized by the University’s Student Council and military unit.
With the help of various questions, the future pedagogues and servicemen involved in the teams Van, Vagharshapat, Armavir, Yerevan, Ararat and Artashat, checked their knowledge and flexibility of mind and trained their logic.
In the heated intellectual competition held in two rounds, the team Van came 3rd with 6.5 points. Vagharshapat was 2nd with 7.5 points, followed by Armavir with 8.5 points.
Although not included in the winning team, private Vanatur Sherents said friendship and cooperation won in the contest. He was impressed by the tour around the ASPU, which, he said, cut him off the reality and service environment and opened an opportunity for new contacts and dreams. Vanatur says he is eager to continue cooperation with the University after he is discharged from military service.
The chess tournament was also held in a heated and breathtaking atmosphere. Hovhannes Baloyan, a serviceman of the military unit after Vazgen Sargsyan, became winner in six consecutive tournaments. The winner of numerous chess tournaments, first-class chess player, accounts his recurrent victory for his ability not to underestimate his rivals.

The serviceman says in chess, as in life, one must assess the skills and abilities of his/her contender. Lieutenant Colonel Artur Tumanyan, Deputy to the Commander for Military Operations, is glad to announce that the next cooperation undertaking with the ASPU was crowned with success.
The military official was also surprised to reveal the high level of intelligence among the servicemen. “Similar intellectual games are regularly organized in the military unit, but this one organized in collaboration with the ASPU differs greatly. The event, aimed at strengthening the ties between the army and society, reminds that soldiers are a part of society and do not yield with their intellectual abilities,” he said.
Military pedagogue Hakob Tadevosyan, Deputy Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, added for his part that the cooperation between the ASPU and Defense Ministry has already become a well-established tradition and today’s event is a striking evidence of it.
Hakob Tadevosyan, who was included in the jury of the intellectual game, is confident that reciprocal visits and intellectual contests promote the development of participants’ mental skills and thinking, shape positive attitude towards the knowledge and increase the realm of interests. The military pedagogue says the visit will also help the soldiers in their professional orientation.
The ASPU guests also visited the University’s museum, got acquainted with the history of the University and the current reforms.
