Scientific Council Reviews and Discusses Curricula

The Scientific Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) convened its recurrent sitting on May 15. Before proceeding to the meeting agenda, APSU Rector Rouben

 Mirzakhanyan congratulated all those who are celebrating their jubilee anniversary this month. Then the Rector bestowed the title of Professor and Associate Professor to the candidates.
 
Srbouhi Gevorgyan, Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Affairs, referred in her report to the process of modernization of Master’s degree programs. She underscored Masters’ abilities to master the skills in the narrow specialized field, as well as the modern methods and technologies of research, and the need to interpret the results of the survey.  “To ensure the final results of the Master’s degree programs we have reviewed the curricula for each of the specialties and significantly changed the former curricula,” she said.
 
“While taking the Master’s degree course, masters are supposed to study the foreign language they learnt during the undergraduate course, thereby providing the continuance and continuity of the learning process,” she added. 
 
The Vice-Rector attached special importance to the choice of the professorial team for the MA degree course and recruitment of new specialists.
 
In his turn, ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan said it is time to separate Master’s degree courses from Bachelor’s degree courses, viewing the last one as second higher education, to depart from traditional teaching methods and attach importance to research works. 
 

Vice-Rector Mher Melik-Bakhshyan, Head of the Division of Coordination of Academic and Scientific-Methodological Activities, spoke about the educational programs of Technology and Entrepreneurship speciality. He also introduced to the participants of the Scientific Council sitting the activities of the Chair preparing Technology specialists. He found it necessary to rename the aforesaid profession and adjust it to the subject of Technology taught at secondary schools and its standards approved by the RA Ministry of Education and Science in 2012. 
 
“To ensure the minimum level it is necessary to review the curriculum, schedule of classes, and open an electrotechnical laboratory, tailoring, wood and metal processing workshops and a teaching kitchen,” said Mr Mher Melik-Bakhshyan.
 
Regarding the proposal to introduce Robototechnics subject at the University which was made by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises, the Vice-Rector found it expedient to involve the subject within the framework of Technology and Entrepreneurship specialty. 
 
This was followed by active discussion, with the members of the Scientific Council making different proposals on the issue. 
 
Eventually, the proposal was approved by the Scientific Council.
 
During the sitting, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Ruzan Tadevosyan was elected Head of the Chair of Foreign Literature. Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Vazgen Hambardzumyan, was elected Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its teaching Methods. He was the only candidate for the position. One candidate was granted the title of Professor and four –the title of Associate Professor. The Scientific Council also approved the submitted 13 PhD thesis topics and several training manuals for printing.
