A few days ago, a two-day symposium on “Military Psychology” organized on the initiative of the Public Council under the RA Ministry of Defense was launched.

Among those participating in the symposium were the Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, the Heads of the corresponding subdivisions of the central headquarters of armed forces and the Ministry of Defense, heads of military and civil educational institutions, specialists of the field.
At the initial session of the symposium the Armenian State Pedagogical University Academic Vice Chancellor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan delivered a report.
The latter presented in her report psychological mechanisms of effective interpersonal interactions, psychological ways of conflict precaution, prevention and mitigation.
The second and third sessions of the symposium continued at the State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi where, based on the outcomes of research activities, practical suggestions were made regarding the prevention of suicides and such attempts by the Head of the Pedagogical University Scientific Research Center, Candidate of Psychological sciences, associate professor Kamo Vardanyan.
Furthermore, the ASPU Head of the Department of Development and Applied Psychology, Doctor of Psychological Sciences Samvel Khoudoyan, the Head of the Internship Department, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Vahan Sargsyan, the Deputy Dean of Science and Postgraduate Education of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Hakob Tadevosyan also made reports at the symposium.

The latter mentioned in his interview to the armspu.am that the attitude towards military psychology during the recent years was conditioned by a specific practical role of the military psychology to ensure effectiveness of life of the armed forces in times of war and peace. “The “Military Psychology” actively absorbs new fields of knowledge about war and battle, stress factors of battles, psychological stability of soldiers, patterns of tactical and psychological preparedness of military servants, technologies of psychological support and rehabilitation of the participants in military activities, belief and prejudice, methods of information and psychological conflicts with the enemy.”
The military psychologist assured that the symposium was one more practical step towards introducing the results of the scientific research of the field into the RA armed forces and developing the Institute for Military Psychologists.
In addition, the representatives of the Pedagogical University also made definite practical suggestions during the symposium which were highlighted by the Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan too; the members of the symposium received an assignment to prepare an action plan and to pass on the work to a more practical stage.
