Teryan Cultural Centre hosted on June 1 the opening of an exhibition of works by the students of the Chair of Design and Decorative and Applied Art, Faculty of Art Education,

 Armenian State Pedagogical University.

The exhibition was attended by the University’s lecturers, students and art-loving people, who walked around the exhibition hall expressing their admiration for tapestries and other works made of different materials.

In her opening remarks art critic Varditer Gamaghelyan said applied art will never be exhausted; it is going back to our national roots and penetrating into our lifestyle. She is happy to see that the young generation is interested in tapestry weaving.

The art critic is also surprised to see the style and content diversity of the showcased works. “This is not only an opportunity for the students to exhibit their works but also a good chance to hear different opinions. The works are made so skillfully that they can participate in any international competition,” she said.

Professor Arkadi Shekunts, Head of ASPU Culture Centre, Honoured Art Worker of Armenia, also welcomed the students participating in the exhibition. He stressed that the success of the exhibition is, to some extent, due to the efficient work of the lecturers.

For her turn, Professor Anoush Yeghiazaryan, Head of the Chair of Design and Decorative and Applied Art, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, hailed the work of second-year students of the Department of Applied Art. She underlined that exhibited works were made within one semester. “Being born into the family of tapestry-wavers I know how these works are made and the efforts the process takes. I consider myself the happiest person in the world; today I received what I had given to my students,” she said.

Aroushan Hakobyan, Director of Teryan Cultural Centre, says the works were a success considering the fact that they were made by second-year students. “The exhibition of these works is a must nowadays,” he stressed.

The opening ceremony was followed by the exhibition of clothes designed by the students. Then the attendees had an opportunity to admire the exhibited silver, ceramic and tapestry works.

At the end of the exhibition the students received letters of acknowledgment, which were granted by Sveta Poghosyan, Deputy Director of the Sardarapat National Museum of Armenian Ethnography and National Liberation Movement, for their active participation in the events held within the framework of "Museum Night" initiative.
