Today, the quarter-finals of the “The Fourth Pan-Armenian Tournament for Young Chemists” took place at the Pedagogical University.

This year, eighteen teams participated in the internationally popular contest among which 8 from Yerevan, 3 from Gyumry, 2 from Vanadzor, and one team from Dilijan, Ararat, Tsaghkunq, Hrazdan, Vagharshapat and Vardenis each.
During this competition held in an interactive game format, the 9-12 grade pupils, who passed to the quarter-finals, solved chemical tasks including those prepared in the video format.
This year too, the president of the jury was the Head of the Department of Analytic Chemistry of the Yerevan State University, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Hambardzum Kahcatryan. In addition the jury comprised lecturers from the ASPU, the YSU and the YSMU.
In his turn, Professor Hambardzum Khachatryan mentioned the following in his interview to the armspu.am, “The tournament held in a team-competition format is principally different from the traditional subject Olympiads. It is not intended for super-talented individuals competing with one another; moreover, here the questions may be introduced in advance.”
The president of the Jury honestly mentioned that the chief aim of the tournament was to raise the interest of the youth towards the subject chemistry in a country with no industry.

In addition, the Project Coordinator, the ASPU Head of the Department of Chemistry and its Teaching Methods, lecturer Nina Hobosyan is assured that the tournament will also promote the development of a teamwork spirit and the progress of the sphere.
The latter also states that the once prestigious subject is giving up its position today; nevertheless, everything is done to create a chemophil mood and to bring back the prestige to the subject. The annually expanding number of the participants is serving as a proof to that.
Nina Hobosyan is glad that just like in the recent years, this year too, the competition was held with the direct methodological assistance of the young lecturers and graduates of the Pedagogical University.
After the end of the quarter-finals of the “Fourth Pan-Armenian Tournament for Young Chemists” the checking committee announced the names of ten teams that pass to the semi-final on the spot; and these are “Abrosia” from Gyumry, “Rubin”, “Furon”, “Proton” from Hrazdan, “Shirakatsi”, “Bnaget”, “Gitunikner” from Yerevan, “Evrika” from Vanadzor, “ALmast” from Vagharshapat, and “Ozone” from Vardenis.
We would also like to remind that it’s the fourth year that the “Ayb” educational foundation, seeking to involve Armenian pupils into popular international competitions, is arranging the “Pan-Armenian Tournament for Young Chemists”
The concept of the initiative and the technologies of holding the competition have been adopted from the annual “Ukrainian Tournament for Young Chemists” successfully held throughout years.
It is formed of three stages; the teams which passed to the semi-final are meeting in October.
