The Academic Board Summarizes the Academic year

Today, the last Academic Board session of the academic year 2012/13 was held at the Pedagogical University.
 

The first issue on the session agenda referred to the results of the final attestation examinations; the Head of the Education and Methodology Department, Vice Chancellor Mr. Mher Melik -Bakhshyan delivered a report on this issue.
 
The Vice Chancellor introduced the positive and the negative aspects observed  during the examinations held by forty-four committees in fifty-two specializations and highlighted their qualitative and contextual changes. Speaking about both some shortcomings and noticeable progress in the graduate works and postgraduate thesis, the Vice Chancellor outlined that in comparison with the previous year, the number of complaints on taking examinations in all subjects in one day significantly decreased. 
 
Further on, the Vice Chancellor of Education Quality and Distant –learning Mr. Tigran Ayvazyan summarized the results of the final attestation examinations in the distant-learning system.
 
After getting acquainted with the presented results, the Chancellor of the Pedagogical University Mr. Rouben Mirzakhanyan once again reminded that they should stay true to the adopted principle according to which admission to the university must be easy, while studying and graduating from it must be laborious, and the graduate work in its turn must give the full mark on the accomplished work. In Chancellor’s opinion the students must be encouraged and motivated first of all by providing them with employment opportunities in compliance with their specializations.
 

What is more, the University has initiated reforms in teaching the subject “Pedagogy”. The Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education Heghinei Khachatryan reported on the draft resolution presented by the working group formed to make amendments to undergraduate and postgraduate educational courses. The report included the reform directions, the structure and the content of the theoretical and practical stages of subjects, the possibility of application of modern teaching technologies in the framework of the subject.
According to the new draft law, the final attestation will be held in written form which implies a summary overview of the pedagogical practices, as well as orally, providing the presentation of the pedagogical internship portfolio and its defense.
 
  In addition, Ms. Heghinei Khachatryan highlighted that the Department’s course list was already settled, a number of meetings took place with the responsible persons of the faculty for educational courses and the teaching methodology specialists, as well as working groups were created in order to make the reforms in a more coordinated way.  
 
The Academic Board presided by the Chancellor Rouben Mirzakhanyan considered the necessity of reforms in teaching the “Pedagogy” subject quite problematic, however he was pleased with the draft resolution expecting to see the more precise activity chain of implementation of the resolution in the upcoming session.
 
 During the session reports were also delivered by the Presidents of the Standing Committees under the Academic Board Ms. Srbouhi Gevorgyan, Ms. Aelita Doloukhanyan, and

 Mr.Mejlum Yeritsyan, who presented the committees’ activity report for the current year.
 
By the end of the session, the candidates nominated for academic titles- the Assistants of the Department of Development and Applied Psychology Zarzand Asatryan and Lida Aramyan were conferred on the academic titles of Associate Professors, as well as the Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Ashot Khoyetsyan was unanimously appointed the professor of the Department of Physical Geography, and the Candidate of Economy Karlen Khachatryan was elected as the Assistant of the Department of Economy and its Teaching Methods.
