A few days ago the freshmen of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography went to the Aragatsotn region, to the gorge of the river Qasagh within the framework of their internship,

the gorge of the river Qasagh is also known as the canyon of Carbi.
The aim of the visit was to introduce the students with the landscape alternation and the biodiversity as well as to explore the characteristic features of the animals typical to the region in natural conditions.
Together with the internship supervisor Ms. Maro Qocharyan, the students undertook explorative activities studying different types of insects, reptiles and amphibians on the river Qasagh and adjacent areas.
In addition, the students collected different types of insects which are not registered in the “Republic of Armenia Red Book” and are considered to be agricultural crops vermin to make laboratory biological research.

The future environmentalists, biologists and naturalists also visited the “Exotarium of Yerevan within the framework of the internship. During the visit the students got familiar with around 80 species of vertebrates that inhabit on nearly all continents, in particular the diversity of species of reptiles, birds and mammals, their behavior and structural characteristics together with the peculiarities of care in restricted conditions.
The students were accompanied by Professor Samvel Pipoyan, the internship supervisor Maro Qocharyan, as well as the Director of the “Exotarium” Mr.Karen Martirosyan. They thoroughly introduced the students with the behavior, structural and propagation peculiarities of various species of snakes, lizards, turtles and exotic birds widely spread both in different tropical countries and in Armenia, also displayed in the terrariums, cages of the exhibition and in free conditions.
And last but not least, the students were able to practically learn on live snakes how to differentiate the poisonous and in-poisonous snakes, realizing what should be done in case of the snake bites, and how to keep different animals in not-free conditions.
