Artashes Qeshishyan “I Create a New World on Monumental Slabs”
06.09.2013
On 5 September, the Artists’ Union hosted the individual exhibition of the Associate Professor of the Pedagogical University Department of Fine Arts, candidate of Pedagogical Sciences

 Artashes Keshishyan.

Among those present at the opening event were the ASPU Chancellor Rouben Mirzakhanyan, the Director of the Armenian State Gallery Paravon Mirzoyan, the ASPU Professor of the Department of Fine Arts Levon Kojoyan, and the students.

Among various exhibits from the series of “Memories of Childhood”, “Bread”, “Under the Peaceful Sky”, “Our Elders” the author’s monumental slabs of 1983-2013 were displayed.
Acquaintance with the world, the presentation and summary- this is how the master characterized the creative life and content of the monumental slabs.

In addition, Mr. Artashes Keshishyan admitted that the thirty year old sculptures undertook serious contextual changes; in the course of time their meaning turned from daily ethnographic into spiritual and philosophical. “I am creating my own atmosphere on monumental slabs where I install characters and create a new world. I am very sorry to see that the art of monumental slabs does not have a leading role in modern art of sculpture.

Further on, the ASPU Professor of the Department of Arts History, Theory and Culturology, Doctor of Art Science Hravard Hakobyan also noticed that still in the early medieval ages masterpieces of Armenian sculpture were created, but these traditions are forgotten now. “ I am glad to see that Mr. Artashes Keshishyan dared to touch this branch of sculpture and to create a number of wonderful pieces with the Armenian spirit.”

“Modern art is Europe oriented. Artashes Keshishyan’s art is very national though, he is working in a small monumental slab format- in  one word , he creates a complete image on a  small area without any exaggeration; this is a sign of mastery. Very few people have this manner of thinking in the art of sculpture, as for Armenia, there are almost no works of such quality here”,  Art Critic Mary Yerznkyan added.

Higher humane qualities, the formulation of the sensation of the artistic taste, color, light and shadow; this is how the graduate of the Pedagogical University Arman Sargsyan describes the five years studied at Mr. Artashes Keshishyan’s course. The young man, being so much impressed by the exhibition, is excited to mark that all artist’s works really are masterpieces.

The exhibition will last until 15 September.
