Today, the Academic Council session was held at the Humanitarian Literature reading-hall. Among the issues on the agenda of the session were the elections of the Deans of the
Faculties of Education Psychology and Sociology, Primary Education, and Special Education.
Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology- the only nominated candidate was the acting Dean of the Faculty, DPhil, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan, who was nominated by all the departments within the Faculty. The latter introduced the main programme provisions for the development of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology to the Academic Council Members.
The Acting Dean mentioned in her speech that for the development of the Faculty and for the education quality improvement she gave much importance to the involvement of highly professional teaching staff in the Faculty, the broad application of information technologies during the classes, the new educational criteria on undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Taking into consideration the realization of the programmes with the Ministry of Defense, Srbouhi Gevorgyan also drew importance to the patriotic education of the students.
The next issue on the agenda was the election of the Dean of the Faculty of Special Education.
Actually, here, too, the only candidate for the Dean’s position was Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Armine Avagyan. She also outlined the importance of the education quality improvement in the corresponding Faculty.
Taking as a priority the involvement of professionals with special needs in the field of education, the Acting Dean mentioned, that the Faculty was going to sign agreements with both medical and educational establishments, to give an opportunity to students with excellent educational progress to study abroad.
Faculty of Primary Education-and here the only contender was Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Heghine Khachatryan.
The latter considers the increase of prestige and reputation of the specialization, and besides that, the education quality assurance in the context of modern educational improvements steps as the major conditions for the Faculty development.
Heghine Khachatryan concluded her speech with well-known Chinese proverb, “The longest way starts with the first step”.
Afterwards, the members of the Academic Council chose the Faculty Deans by a secret ballot.
The DPhil, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan as the Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology.
The Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Heghine Khachatryan was selected as the Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education ; and the Dean of the Faculty of Special Education was the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Armine Avagyan.
