This year we are celebrating the 110th birth anniversary of the world famous composer Aram Khachatryan. Various Khachatryanian events have been organized both in Armenia

and abroad since the start of the year.
From 6-7 September, on the occasion of this significant anniversary, the RA Ministry of Culture, together with the Aram Khachatryan house-museum, arranged an international symposium headed “Aram Khachatryan and the Modern world”.
The symposium was marked with the participation of guests from Russia (Saint-Petersburg, Moscow), Georgia (Tbilisi), and Latvia (Riga).
In addition, representatives from the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan, the RA NAS Institute of Art, the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, the Yerevan Sayat-Nova Music School and the Ghazaros Aghayan Art School, the Stepanakert Sayat-Nova Music College, and from the Aram Khachatryan house-museum participated in the symposium from the Armenian side.
As for the reports delivered at the international symposium, they were mainly dedicated to the theoretical and historical issues relating to the creative activities of the composer, as well as the interpretation of works, his creative relations with the Armenian cultural figures, and the disclosure of the image of Aram Khachatryan as a creator and a citizen.
The ASPU was presented at the international symposium by the Associate Professor of the Department of Theory of Music, its Teaching Methods and Musical Instruments, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Ms. Gohar Meliqsetyan.
The latter presented her report on the subject “Aram Khachatryan’s Polyphonic Works”; as a matter of fact, his polyphonic compositions are relatively less highlighted in the musicological literature and this is what attracted those present and deserved their special attention.
Moreover, within the framework of the symposium, a concert was also arranged during which the composer’s less known or yet unknown and unpublished pieces were performed.
To conclude, the symposium was held in a very professional and friendly, mutually respectful and collaborative atmosphere.
