European Day of Languages at the Pedagogical

This day, 26 September twelve years ago, the Council of European and the European Union announced the European Day of Languages for the dissemination and diversity of

 languages all over the world.
 
It has been 5 years in roll since  the ASPU Faculty of Foreign Languages has joined the covenant of the day. By the initiative of the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Teaching Methods Ms. Melanya Astvatsatryan the teaching-professorial team and the students made the days outstanding with their celebration.
 
The Professor of the Faculty, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Karen Hayryan noticed that in the age of globalization conditioned by the social requirements the role and the meaning of languages had a rapid growth.
 
By the latter’s observations, in spite of the development of technology and communications means, languages are considered as the first means of communication all over the world, nevertheless, no serious programmes are implemented in regards with the coordination of languages in our country. “The announcement of the European day of languages by the European Union can be considered crucial for the humanity; due to this, equal conditions were created for all languages and they were observed as universal values. I am glad that an important role is given to teaching foreign languages both in specialized and other faculties, and serious theoretical and practical work is undertaken in that direction”, Mr. Karen Hayryan added.
 
“… study ten languages, but keep your language and belief strong”, the Head of the Department of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods Mr. Vazgen Hambardzumyan once again reminded those present the thought of the Great Enlightener Khachatur Abovyan and expressed his hope to see Armenian language on a high educational level at secondary schools . The philologist called for reading in Armenian and being as fervent about teaching the Armenian language, as they were in cases of teaching foreign languages.
 

Further on, the Head of the Department of Romanic languages, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Donara Ghazaryan greeted those present in her already native French and expressed another wish to see a big number of Francophones next to the Anglophones. Besides, speaking about the role and the functions of the language of love French, Donara Ghazaryan was happy to inform that ten days before the Pedagogical University had become the member of the Francophone University Alliance which will lead the road to the implementation of a great deal of scientific and educational projects. “The knowledge of foreign languages is a significant circle ensuring cultural communication between the nations, it enable them to learn one another’s culture and highly praise the national values”.
 
In addition, the Head of the Department of Russian language, candidate of pedagogical sciences, acting Professor Gayanei Shaghgamyan shared her years’ experience of mastering a foreign language. She urged to know at least two foreign languages which will allow to solve the employment problems more easily.
 
 
“Knowing a language only to know it –this is a kind of light at the end of the tunnel; and our University provides this opportunity,” the Professor Concluded.
