Samvel Pipoyan, spent a part of their research internship at the “Unifish” fish farm in the valley of Ararat and other fish farms in the neighbourhood of village Ranchpar.
The aim of the educational internship arranged within the framework of the special course “Ichthyology and Fish Ecology” was to introduce the students with the species of fish available at the fishponds of Armenian, their structural and biological peculiarities, and the care conditions.
Visiting the Unifish, the students got acquainted with the species of fish they were growing, such as the Siberian /Lena/ and the Russian sturgeon, the Stellate sturgeon, the Beluga, the Rainbow trout, Carp koi, their structure and biological peculiarities, reproduction in restricted conditions and care.
The pisciculturist of the fish farm Mr. Ashot Atanesyan explained to the students about the water supply of the farm, the rules for the calculation of the sedimentation of fishes in separate ponds, the frequency of feeding of the fishes, and described the care peculiarities of the small-sized fish.
In addition, the students were also shown the fodder imported from Germany, the first samples of the black caviar produced in Armenia as well as the closed ponds of the small-sized fish where they were grown during the first weeks of their lives.

Furthermore, the senior pisciculturist of the pond farm in the neighbourhood of the village Ranchpar Mr. Gagik Manoucharyan presented the Pedagogical students, undergoing practical training with the specifications of the activities of that kind of farms and the species of fishes bred there such as the carp, the spotted and the white brain-fishes, and the grass carp, their biological peculiarities, reproduction in restricted conditions and care.
Besides, special attention was paid to the types of birds that could be met at the ponds of the fish farms, their diversity and lifestyle. For the implementation of further research the students also did some fishing of the gambusia species in the adjacent ponds, collected some algae and water samples.
What is more, during the meeting, agreements were made with the head of the farms for the ASPU students to be able to make some research for collecting and generating corresponding material for their postgraduate thesis.
And last but not least, the professor of the Department of Biology and its Teaching Methods, the Doctor of Biological Sciences Samvel Pipoyan mentioned the following during his interview to the armspu.am, “The skills and the knowledge of the student acquired during the internship will make them more knowledgeable about the fish-breeding and ichthyology principles which will strongly contribute to a more effective implementation of pedagogical activities in future”.
