The Pedagogical University marked the UN Spanish Language Day with a festive celebration.

Spanish songs, flamenco, poetry, video presentations about Argentina, Spain, Peru, and Buenos Aires the Pedagogical students turned the National Day of Spain into a real holiday.
The event organized under the joint initiative of the University and the UN Department of Public Information (UN DPI) aimed at once again reminding about the important role of Spanish in disseminating the UN’s message:
Among those present at the event were the Head of the Department of Public Information of the UN Office in Armenia Ms. Maria Dotsenko, the Head of the Department of International Organizations at the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vahan Kazhoyan, the Head of the Division of the Central and South Americas of the Department of Americas Mr. Karen Martirosyan, the teaching-professorial team of the University together with the students.
Maria Dotsenko was quite impressed with the event; “It is very important that Armenians learn Spanish; it will help to reveal the world around them and to become cosmopolitans. We live in a multilingual world where the languages we speak, read and write have a strong impact on the way we think. Fortunately the students of the Pedagogical know the language and were able to duly introduce the Spanish culture during the event”.

The Representative of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vahan Kazhoyan in his turn noticed that each moment 20 million people are studying Spanish in the world; the Pedagogical students are among them.
In addition, Mr. Vahan Kazhoyan considered the only drawback the fact that females in particular are interested in Spanish language.
“Gender equality is deviated to the opposite side in this case, but this lack must be filled in”, he added.
THe latter also urged the young to study languages and assured that the knowledge of foreign languages will allow them to enter the international arena and to have larger amount of success.
Furthermore, on the International Day of Spanish Language the Head of the Department of Romanic Languages Ms. Donara Ghazaryan congratulated the students. She was proud to mention that two of the official languages of the UN, French and Spanish are taught at the faculty, which are, in fact, the most beautiful languages in the world.
Moreover, the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages put in, “The aim of this event, which is organized already the second year, is to increase the students’ interest towards the Spanish language and culture. Although the history of teaching Spanish at the Pedagogical University is yet new, around 70 students have already given their preference to this particular language, and those having selected it as a second professional language, held victories in a number of competitions.”
By the end of the event the Dean of the Faculty informed those present that further on the students may undertake events dedicated to Spanish by themselves, presenting their own programmes. The Dean assured that the best ones will be awarded.
Let’s mention that the event of the “UN Spanish Language Day” in Armenia has been celebrated since 2010 and it aims to foster language and culture diversity.
