“What is the role of Mathematics in the process of value orientation? What does this subject give to individuals and to a country?” These and other Math-related issues were discussed by the participants of the conference “Mathematics Education” on the second day of the meeting. Lecturers, teachers, applicants and postgraduate students today continued discussions on the sidelines of the conference.
On the second day of the meeting, the participants delivered reports concerning the teaching of Mathematics in inclusive classes, formation of critical thinking during Math lessons, cross-curricular and inter-subject relations.
The reporters attached special importance to the aesthetic component of mathematical education, formation of logical thinking among schoolchildren with the help of the subject, development of critical thinking in math classes and other features of Mathematics.
The reports on cross-curricular relationship, including the ties between Informatics and Mathematics, chess and Mathematics, formation of children’s intuition through Mathematics, application of algorithm during the study of languages were approved by the participants, thus becoming a topic of discussions.
“The participants broadened the scope of issues related to the organization of mathematical education, offering their
options for solution which are [first of all] based on the formation of value system among schoolchildren within the frame of the subject,” Hamlet Milaelyan, the organizer of the conference, Acting Head of the Chair of Teaching Methodology of Mathematics, Chief Editor of “Mathematics in School” journal, said in conversation with armspu.am.
The latter emphasized the fact that the regional teachers participating in the conference were fascinated by the exclusive knowledge of the University students – applicants, postgraduate students and MA students – about the three components of education, specifically the value system.
Hamlet Milaelyan added that the reports of the conference participants will be published in a handbook after receiving the approval of the Scientific Council.
The republican conference “Mathematics Education” was dedicated to the 15th anniversary of “Mathematics in School” journal.
